Hi, I just got my new 1080 ti and while I don't have a really up to date rig like most of you guys - I am pretty sure I don't have a bottleneck.

However when I play games in 4k, while my framerate is high (60-90) the game doesn't seem smooth. I don't really know how to describe it, only that you would know it if you had experienced it.

Bit of screen tearing going on on some games and the smoothness of the game just seems off.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks

Andy

Got similar spec as yours and also finding the card not a massive upgrade from my overclocked 980ti. Still lots of time to do some more testing and benchmarks

Sorry to talking to myself but could it be v-sync? This seems to fix the problem but then the framerate gets limited to 30fps and the mouse seems a little laggy.
have you checked your monitor is actually set to run at 60hz?
if vsync is limiting to 30fps then it sounds like your monitor is set to 30hz which will cause all manner of problems and yes it will look rubbish basically whatever

HAz:

run a Fire Strike Test and a Time Spy test on 3D mark and compare to mine.

I got time spy to 8509 after overclocking grafx card to 1806 (didnt touch memory).

andybird123:

I have a dell up3216q that apparently is 60hz @ 4k.

Is there a setting to switch to 60hz?

Thanks

Check Nvidia control panel it should say the current Hertz. But from my experience. Input lag is very apparent on 4K below 100fps.

Try for a test Running on Medium & getting constant 100fps & see if it feels smoother.

sounds odd, but mouse/gamepad input lag on 60hz at 4K is much more apparent.

there were some settings on the monitor OSD.

Response Time was set to Normal so I changed it to fast.

Also I was using HDMI dable and in Nvidia panel max selectable it 30hz, Switched to displayport and I get 60hz.

I set both of those, gonna try it now.

The displayport does say 60hz but screen tearing still there. When I turn on vsync, it caps it at 30fps.

Lowering the RES to 2560x1600 increases vsync res to 60 and looks amazing albeit lower res. Must be something to do with game.

So annoying.

Did you DDU (Display driver uninstaller) the drivers upon install? Best practice to do this definitely with a new card but also with new drivers too. I've had quite a few issues where the game ran at max refresh but still felt stuttery. Usually DDU and re-install sorted it.

And yeah ensure the monitor is running at 60hz with vsync too, Definitely needs a Display port for 4k @ 60.

On another note, I have 16gb @ 1600mhz. Do you think I would benefit in games by upgrading to 32gb @ 2400 or 2666?

I only have a rampage IV motherboard.

Also Will my CPU limit me to what RAM I can put in?
