4K monitor for programming?

Thank you for all the great advice people, I'm leaning towards the 4k Phillips BDM4065UC. Thanks for the heads up squid vicious, I'll just order another cable so I have it in reserve.

Having said that the smaller IPS BENQ is still pretty attractive. Has anyone had any experience trying to dual screen between a larger 4k and a smaller 1080p monitor?

I swap between 4k and ultrawide monitors depending on what I'm needing...
I usually just run the one I'm needing at the time though...

I do a lot of programming and currently use one 1440p monitor and a second 1200p monitor. I'm thinking about replacing the 1200p monitor (its from 2007 and so is pretty rubbish compared to modern monitors) with 2 new 1200p monitors giving me 3 monitors to work with.

I don't really find one large monitor acceptable for programming as I have lots of programs open all at the same time and window management with a single monitor is a pain. Much better to have each monitor dedicated to a single task (or maybe 2 tasks since switching each monitors task is quite easy).

For instance I pretty much always have my IDE open, a web browser for reference documentation, another web browser for testing, an IRC chat program, email and Spotify. Having those split between 3 monitors would be a really nice configuration for me.

For a work only monitor the Phillips 4K is probably the best option it has a similar PPI to a 27in 2560x1440. Where the BenQ BL3201PT is a good all rounder.

I like the idea of the "all-rounder" BenQ and it will also leave enough room on the desk to keep my 27" monitor in play as a secondary for other windows as Cromulent suggests.

I use 2 BenQ here, side by side. /some/ text is too small depending on the application (I tried, but don't use scaling) but for programming it's near perfect, theres a LOT of real estate, and given it's 32" it's still very readable.

It arrived today and loving it so far, finding the right backgrounds for my slide reel...

I was surprised to only find a mini display cable and no normal sized display cable in the box.
