4k on 16:10 1920x1200 ?

Depends if it's 3840x2160 or the DCI version which is 4096x2160. 3840x2160 is 16:9 which is the same aspect ratio as 720 & 1080 and will have the same size bars. DCI is wider and will have bigger bars.

Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor | U2415 | - 16:10 - 1920x1200

I was thinking of getting the above monitor and i wondered if 4k media playback would be any worse than 720p or 1080p.

I don't mind the black bars that you get with 720p or 1080p but i wouldn't want it any worse that you end up with a thin letterbox and thick black bars.

As far as I know, most 4k content should be 3840x2160 and therefore have the same size black bars as 1080.

I use an old dell 2408 which is also 1920x1200 and from what I've seen, it looks just the same as HD.
