4k player time

I'm looking at buying a 4k disc player

I've not had a dvd player of any kind for a while but want to jump to the 4k player for things such as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter

I've been thinking about either the Panasonic DP-UB159, Sony UBP-X700 or Sony UBP-X800M2

It'll be connected to my LG C1 OLED TV

I was after the LG player but that seems to have been discontinued

I wouldn't recommend any of players you have listed @markwilliams82.
The Panasonic does not output Dolby Vision and both Sony's do not output Dolby Vision unless you go into the menu each time and select it.
As @Simmz suggested, the best player bang for buck is the Panasonic DP-UB820EB

Apparently they will from the rear USB, you may have to use a different audio track these ones are supported AAC, PCM, Vorbis and FLAC. I never use MKV's so don't just rely on my info

yes but will be hit or miss on any player you can think of in my experience, new fancy audio is a swine

Yep, I did mess with Plex once. I just buy discs now, easy, cheap especially used. I don't need to subscribe to lots of services to watch the films I enjoy. Obviously not as cheap as "other" means but I like physical media, old school

Same here. Also the quality is better.

This is what I'm thinking, apart from maybe Disney, the others are so hit and miss with content especially for the price

For me while I have my own media library. It's really only my most favourite movies I'm going to get on disk. Because I don't want to be faffing about with subtitles and audio tracks. Also many of my favourites aren't on the streaming services or downloads are often in lesser quality. Also it saves the time and hardware needed to store it digitally.

Same here. Also the quality is better.

The HDR and sound on 4K Blu-ray is very obviously better, especially on an OLED and a decent speaker setup. Even Blu-ray is very good, the UB820 upscales it very well.

The K designation is just choice of colour, otherwise it's the same player.
