4k R290 HDMI 2.0 Problem

Well I have ordered the Belkin adapter just to try, doubt it's going to work from what I've read. Other guy was using a 7000 series gpu, hoping it might be different with an R290. Only other adapter i've seen that I thought might be promising was the Moshi Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter on the Apple site. Not sure if it's worth trying. Already spent like around 25 and adding another 35 is a bit much for adapters that probably wont work.

I've done quite a bit of research on this, and not heard of any success with the Belkin or any other adapter.

I have read that active dp 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapters are on the way from Accel, but won't be available until Q1 or Q2 2015.

The VESA Displayport 1.3 FAQ also states that some devices can be updated to the new spec through firmware. Displayport 1.3 to HDMI 2.0 passive adapters will be available, but it's optimistic to think that update will come.

Active adapters next year seem to be the best bet, short of getting a new GPU.

Well finally got around to trying a DP to HDMI adapter, no luck at all :( Couldn't even get 4k out of it. It seems the best I can get is HDMI to HDMI to get the 4k but only at 30Hz. Pretty crap but I guess it's ok for some games. Shadow of Mordor is pretty good and considering a lot of the games on the next gen consoles are only 30fps it's still a big step up I guess.

Well the 970/980 have now come out with HDMI 2.0 support.

@Asa you won't do it with any adapter aside from active ones that don't really exist at the moment, not sure what panos is on about as I've not heard of anyone actually making the theory work outside of use with Apple stuff.

@Rroff I know..

"I have read that active dp 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapters are on the way from Accel, but won't be available until Q1 or Q2 2015." :)

I'm desperate to get R9 290 HDMI 2.0 working myself. I have somewhere around £3000 of TV and graphics cards that are refusing to be friends at the moment. I'd be willing to get another GPU added if that's the answer, but I can't really justify swapping out the hardware I already have to go nVidia.

It's... really really frustrating.
