Got my 4k tv yesterday and hooked it up to the the 290 via HDMI, however, my 290 limits me to certain res's at 30hz so I am trying to get 2560x1080 @60hz to work on the 4k tv for when I Pc game.

What are you guys doing via windows settings or/and AMD control panel to achieve this and get it to stick?

I can get the tv to 21.9 2560x1080 via windows but when I launch games and try to set the 2560x1080 res. it won't stick, it just defaults back to the 4096x2160 option but again windows 10 at 2560x1080 works fine

PS. I couldn't get AMD crimson control panel to work so I'm just using CRU.

Any advice?

Also, any must have software to make all this switching and faffing about more seamless/efficient?

Sometimes it may not be the driver issue, but more to do with the games itself not recognising that the display being used can output at those resolution. Not sure what the work around would be, but I know some games might require editing the ini files for the resolution bit to get the uncommon resolution to work.

Will try editing the config files later then and report back.

Although the games work fine with 2560*1080 on my 21.9 monitor so is it just because the TV is 16.9 that might be confusing the games?

Just weird how 21.9 2560*1080 works fine in Windows but not games......

Did you get the same one as me? (LG OLED55B7V). Interested in your thoughts on lag, as if you have the same one as me, I really noticed it. Image was awesome though.

Sorry, can't help with those settings.

I thought you had last years model? And mine is the 55c7 but aside from the stand, it is the exact same panel wise as the b7.

As for input lag, no issues whatsoever for me, especially when using a controller, if playing a shooter with M+K then yeah, input lag is noticeable compared to a low input lag monitor but other than that, I was really surprised with just how responsive the TV felt (and this is outside of game mode too, with game mode, it will only get better)

Motion clarity wise, it is fantastic, noticeably better than my 29um65 monitor.

And yup, games look stunning, as you know yourself, photos really don't do it justice, oled is one of these things you just have to see in person.

Even with 1920x1080, the games still look nice and sharp too, more so than my monitor despite the PPI being considerably lower, granted, I'm sitting further back but this is where no matte coating and an infinite contrast ratio help with the sharpness.

Still can't figure out how to get 21.9 resolutions working though, any time, I launch any game up which has had 2560x1080 already selected or/and changing via the config file, the tv just comes up saying invalid format......

Anything to do with right-clicking on the game .exe and disabling the automatic scaling?

I know Win 10 was screwing things up when I first started playing around with my 4K TV and PC gaming.

Isn’t 2560x1080 an invalid res on a 4K TV anyway? Or are you trying to introduce borders? Not sure why you’re attempting a 21:9 res on a native 16:9 screen.

If so, what should I select?

And yes, I am trying to get 21.9 resolution with black borders on the top and bottom. I want a 21.9 resolution because 16.9 feels so squashed especially after having gamed on a 21.9 monitor for 4-5 years now. Black borders doesn't bother me, especially on OLED as they are "black", the extra FOV you get (without fish eye effect) far outweighs the loss in vertical/physical height for me.

Windows 10 works great with 21.9, it is just as soon as any fullscreen application runs, the tv comes up saying invalid format. It should work because plenty of other people do it.

Nice one and her, mine is last year' but couldn' remember the number lol

nope doesn't seem to work either :(

What's weird is that wolfenstein the newest game works fine with the 21.9 resolution but everything else, invalid format....

Guess you’ll just have to play it 16:9 then.

21:9 is almost exclusively a monitor resolution after all.

Cracking TV though. :)

Yeah I can stick with 16.9 for the sheer quality of OLED but still, it would be nice to be able to get 21.9 working especially when others seem to get it working  I am wondering if there is a tv setting I need to change as the invalid format screen is a tv thing, not windows/game error message but again, I can't seem to see any settings.

Thanks, it is stunning looking and makes looking at my 29um65 very hard now! Thankfully I got lucky with the panel lottery too.

Are you using a HDMI 2.0 Cable?

Anything below 2.0 would point to 30hz if I'm correct

Yes I am using a HDMI 2 cable, however, I am limited by my 290, that is why I am sticking to 2560x1080 and 1920x1080 for pc gaming and of course those resolutions are much easier than full 4k.

Does the 290 support 3840x2160@60?

My 480 didn’t do 60Hz until I swapped the HDMI cable for a better one now that I think about it, even though the original cable allegedly supported it.

Nope :(

This is the cable I got:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0036BD0K2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

All the other hdmi cables I looked at had fakespot ratings of C-F.

I could buy a club3d adaptor for about £30-40 but not much point as I'll be getting a new GPU within the next 6 months anyway.

Hey Gregster,

I find most the lag when playing on tv comes from vsync and locking the frames to 60.

When I play overwatch and stuff I vsync off and run at 200fps it's pretty much instant then.

Even though my tv has very low input lag vsync on 60fps is unplayable for me on first person shooters.

Had the same with destiny 2 vsync on was pretty much unplayble with that off maxed out I was getting 90fps and still pretty laggy but turned couple of things down like depth of field 1 notch and shadows down a notch and started getting 200 fps and felt very nice.

Yeah vsync adds a lot of input lag, if you are going to use vsync, make sure to cap fps to 1 below your refresh rate so for 60hz, lock fps to 59. This helps cut lag down or out completely depending on the game.

I am noticing less screen tear with the tv compared to the monitor too (without any vsync)

I find the higher you go with the frames the less tearing you get.

Overwatch at 200fps I never notice any tearing.
