4k TV and 21.9 resolution users, advice please.

It sounds like you are using the 3rd party utility to run the desktop at the 21:9 res rather than making it save a permanent desktop res option selectable within windows and therefore games.

Because 21.9 is vastly better than 16.9 for immersiveness imo. After having used 21.9 for 4-5 years, 16.9 feels incredibly squashed, even on a 55" screen.
Fair enough, I'm not sure if I'd want to play with black bars top & bottom but I suppose when on a 55" screen the used real estate's as big or bigger than a 34" ultrawide. If the Field of view can be tweaked on some of the games you play that might help.

I have used CRU to add the 2560x1080 resolution:

Windows works fine, it is just when you launch games, the tv says invalid format :/ Except for wolfenstein.....

Yup on 55" and OLED, the black bars are a non issue, it is just like watching a 21.9 film on a 16.9 display.

Crappy pic but it gives you an idea:

And increasing FOV on 16.9 won't help, you just can't achieve the same effect as 21.9 without adding fish eye :(

It does look good.

I've never been keen on widening the FOV either but I thought I'd mention it as some people like it. A lot of Stalker modders seem to like it.

Hey Gregster,

I find most the lag when playing on tv comes from vsync and locking the frames to 60.

When I play overwatch and stuff I vsync off and run at 200fps it's pretty much instant then.

Even though my tv has very low input lag vsync on 60fps is unplayable for me on first person shooters.

Had the same with destiny 2 vsync on was pretty much unplayble with that off maxed out I was getting 90fps and still pretty laggy but turned couple of things down like depth of field 1 notch and shadows down a notch and started getting 200 fps and felt very nice.
Thanks for that. In fairness, I have used my PC on my OLED for about 3 hours max and then took the PC back upstairs. IQ was excellent though and very happy with that and colours were so deep.

shoulda spent 1500 quid on a new pc :D

nice tv tho :)

Lol, my potato masher shall live on for ever :D This is worth the money more than what a new PC would be :D

Also, £1350, not £1500 :p

Only thing that badly needs upgraded now is the gpu in order to make use of HDR + a custom 21.9 4k res @60HZ @ 4:4:4 with 10 bit (assuming I can get 21.9 to eventually work.....)

No idea, sorry

I have a Maxwell Titan X SLI setup which had HDMI 2.0 so 4k/60hz hasn't ever been an issue

Coincidentally the only game I ever tried at 1440p was Wolfenstein, because the id tech 5 engine didn't support SLI and it either ran with terrible V-sync tearing at 4K/60 or locked 60fps at 1440p. I took the later option.

I assumed every game would work at 1440p because of that, but i'm not sure now.

Also my GPU is connected to my AVR, not directly to the TV. I'm guessing the AVR could accept a lesser resolution and upscale it to the TV (hope that makes sense)

Ah right, thought you were running 21.9 as well vincent. And yeah know what you mean, unfortunately I don't have an AVR, I've just got the PC connected directly to the PC.

Tried that but I am then locked to just these 2 resolutions.

Just don't understand why wolfenstein works but nothing else :/

Ignore me, looking at the wrong bit

My advice - get an Nvidia 1070Ti...

Yup I'm starting to think it is an AMD issue.... No surprise there!

Was going to get a new GPU anyway but will wait until volta/ampere though as would really need 1080ti performance for 4k 21.9 res @ 60hz.

Why are you trying to use 21:9 on a 16:9 screen though?

This reason

Because 21.9 is vastly better than 16.9 for immersiveness imo. After having used 21.9 for 4-5 years, 16.9 feels incredibly squashed, even on a 55" screen.

Some games I can deal with 16.9 but gta 5 for example is terrible at 16.9 imo. I just love the wide FOV of 21.9 without fish eye.

With OLED and 55", black bars at the top and bottom aren't an issue at all.
