Looking to replace my Samsung LE40C750 with a new 4k TV

Originally was look at the Samsung UE55JU6500 but then I found out it only has a 60hz refresh rate while this is ok for games not so good for movies or am I wrong?

Only the 7 series seem to start with 120hz upwards but these are too expensive

Then I got looking at the Panasonic VIERA TX-50CX700B which being 3D can offer 800hz refresh rate

Both include a 5 year guarantee but the Samsung is £100 cheaper

The Samsung uses HDCP 2.2 but the Panasonic uses the older HDMI 2.0 standard

I won't be gaming on either, just watching general TV so which should I go for, or any other suggestions for 50" (looking around £700 - £900?

At the moment I'd wait, I'm wanting a new TV myself but there's things like HDR on the horizon which could be a game changer, not many sets fully support it at the moment.

If it's general TV, no streaming or other use then I'd say a 4k set is overkill just now. And by General you mean freeview/digital through a normal aerial? No Sky/BT you View?

Agre with misscheif - 4k is overkill at the moment as theres very little content that will use it.

Better off looking for things like OLED tbh - If I was in the market for a TV that would take precedence over any other fancy features.

In which case go for a top of the line 1080p set. Some of the new OLED sets are only 1080p but look stunning although not cheap. Check out John Lewis, free five year guarantee on all TVs too!

I would go with OLED the picture quality I'd far superior to LCD or Plasma, on another note I'm quite concerned that the new box that's being released tomorrow by sky is being released with no 4K content what so ever yet there is still a price rise coming

Hmm. I've looked at the OLED TVs in John Lewis. Yes, they're good. They're better than the LEDs. Are they are as good as the 18 month old panny plasmas for the money? Certainly not!

My 42" plasma panny was 650 from John Lewis. There's nothing in there in now that touches it for the money.

Your comparing a 42'' tv against a 55'' tv tho  compare like for like and you'll see its not such a gap, and Oled is much better.

Just like on avforums you have the plasma nuts who think nothing will beat it for years.

Don't know what's special about your plasma inogen but even these first sets of OLEDs from LG are streets ahead of any plasma I've seen.

I value good blacks over anything else so I've just gone from a Panasonic 50" 720p plasma that I bought cosmetically damaged from eBay for £260 3 years ago (forgot how heavy that thing was!) to the new LG 55" OLED 4k flat screen. A huge upgrade and my god does it show!

Have you considered the Panasonic 50CX680 if you don't need 3D? Some good offers on it at the moment (JL has it for £699).

LG’s new 4K OLED TVs will begin going on sale in South Korea, Germany, the USA and the United Kingdom at the end of August (2015), with the rollout scheduled to continue over the next few months in select markets. UK pricing remains unknown, but we’ll be sure to bring you more details once we visit LG’s show booth (Hall 18) at IFA next week.

The best I could find, clearly useless
