4k Ultrawide Gsync 120Hz+ or OLED TV alternative

The closest currently planned are IPS panels with 3440 x 1440 res and a native 144Hz refresh rate, and VA panels of the same res but up to 200Hz refresh rate. No word on actual monitors planned yet but the panel production is in road maps :)

Yea, I'm going to skip them as they don't offer enough over the X34a to justify the upgrade.

Any update on this? More specifically, is there anything coming relatively soon that could replace a X34a?

I'm approaching the 18 month stage of ownership, which is a good time to sell on as it gives the new owner a wee bit of warranty.

I still love the screen, but have a wee budget to upgrade and given that I have a 6700k/1080ti system then the best choice for spending on the system is surely the monitor?

I'm starting to get really tempted here, but I'm concerned at going back to 60Hz as I'm really sensitive to it. I'd be pairing this with my X34a and would use it for gaming with gamepad and for movies etc.. I'd still use the X34a for K&M and general PC use.

It just seems a lot of cash... I'll need to get to see one in the flesh. :)

Yes, smaller OLED would be what I'd need but alas it's years away by the look of it. I've done some research on LED 4K HDR in the 43" range, but I just can't convince myself to pull the trigger.

I think I'm back to holding out for a monitor I could consider an upgrade to my X34a. As in thread title, 4K Ultrawide at 100Hz minimum.

Having seen the OLED it's really drew my attention to the BLB with my IPS panel. Is OLED making its way into the PC monitor market or are there issues with screen burn that would prevent this?

I just wanted to update this thread, having created it almost 2 years ago now.

The conversation did turn to OLED TVs and I was very tempted, however after doing all the research I ended up buying a cheap 4k 43" TV to pair with my X34a just to see how I get on with it. I went for LG-43UJ630V for £330.

Pros:
  • 4k image looks great quality
  • Screen size is perfect for a small office environment
  • HDR looks nice and this isn't even "proper" HDR
  • Watching YouTube, Netflix, BT Sport etc is much better on the TV than the X34a
  • Ultra HD from content providers looks really good
  • Built in WiFi on the TV means apps are really convenient as opposed to browsers on PC
Cons:
  • No Gsync - seriously, I don't think I can game without it now.
  • 60Hz @ 4k - I just can't handle gaming lower than 70-80 FPS now.
  • Desktop use - there's just no way I could use a TV as my main monitor
  • Switching between primary display to game on the TV - it's a pain
  • 16:9 resolution - it's fine for movies & TV but not for gaming or desktop use

I'm really glad I picked this TV up as it's priced really well and is a great addition to my setup, however I would have been gutted if I'd spent the money on OLED as the TV use is so limited in this environment.

I definitely don't want to move from Gsync, high refresh or Ultrawide for PC use so I'm still looking for an upgrade in the 21:9 100Hz+ space. :)
