should be the same on mint as ubuntu ...(should)
and it wont "push" your system past your current over clock ... it will just Lock
the processor P-State, so it never changes to something less than, Turbo boost

if you have it installed correctly
you need to start it

open a terminal window
and type in the command

sudo tpc -psmax 1

seeing you are overclocking

you should also have OCNG tools installed ...
so u can do
sudo clockspeed

not sure this will verify anything as i dont overclock currently

but i do have the OCNG tools installed
even though i didnt flash the bios

what i do is a before and after

sudo clockspeed
sudo -psmax 1
sudo clockspeed

and that shows the difference
