Morning :)

looking for a gaming drive, my 1tb nvme just aint cutting it anymore :P

what are people using these days? i see the 4TB samsung evo are avail at a competator (dont like qvo) , or a 4tb nvme? not sure on best makes and there are limited supply around :)

let me know your thoughts

4tb nvme drives are silly money 2tb is the sweet spot for price to performance. Shame you don't like the qvo seen the 4tb 870 is a decent price.

Go for a 2TB and only install the games you're likely to play and/or archive away other games onto a large HDD.

I would avoid the 870 Evo, it has a worse reputation (for failures and bad blocks) than the QVO (which is mainly disliked because it is QLC). The 860 or 970 models are fine.

For my info, what's up with the QVO? I'm debating splurging on a 4tb sata SSD as a 'slow' data drive. Not cheap, but I feel like it will probably last longer than a spinning drive. I have a ~8 year old Samsung 850 that is still very serviceable and reporting 80% life remaining... My use case is write-rarely read-often; mostly a media library and some backups.

Yeh, I have a gen 4 NVME 2TB and only put games that need fast throughput on it. So far I've only had to put Forza Horizon 5 on it, every other game I have runs fine on the Exos 18Tb drive I've reserved for games.

I can't speak for the OP, but when it was released it was just far too expensive, since it was nearly the same price (as the TLC Evo), but used QLC (half the TBW, 2 year shorter warranty and poor performance). Modern 'high-end' QLC drives like the 670p are better than the QVO and value-oriented QLC drives, but there's still no meaningful discount.

Exactly the post above , speed drops, less warranty , less total writes . Just not a fan at all. I’m actually eyeing up the Corsair mp510 4tb, reviews look great, slight tad more expensive than some other 4tb drives tho
