Look at the state of this:

This was how they arrived this morning. All four wardrobes in this state. £50 delivery cost for them to be this incompetent. £320 worth of goods now scrap.

An hour on hold waiting to speak to someone this morning.

They are bringing four new ones tomorrow, but not taking away the damaged ones until Monday. God knows how I can fit in the boxes when they come tomorrow, and if those are damaged too?

What a mess.

Packaging damaged and one splintered edge? You know they can ship just the replacement bits you need right?
Both ends of each box are like this, on all four items. Also damage to middle of the boxes, dents and chips on the panels half way where boxes are torn open.

I didn't consider asking them to replace individual panels because I was so angry this morning, and they didn't offer this either. But it would have been pointless, I would have needed at least half of panels in each box replacing.

How do you know? You haven't even opened the box...
I did yeah, dents and chips on the large vertical panels in two of them. Dents and chips and damp visible on the ends of the boxes as per pictures above.

I hoped one box would be ok, the least damaged of the four, but when I opened it it had a large dent on the front face of one of the panels.

What's the point me keeping any of it, I wouldn't have been able to assemble any of it this weekend.

they left them outside, did you see how they were handled .. could you have immediately rejected them all ?

yes - I don't see much point trying to determine what might be salvageable.

As soon as they came off the van and were brought into the house I saw the state of the boxes. I wanted to reject but the delivery drivers said that's not possible and I have to contact IKEA. And I wasn't sure at that point whether all 4 would be damaged internally. Once I started opening boxes, yep all damaged.

4 replacements arrived earlier today. Boxes much better condition but I can already see a scrape through one box and into the chipboard face.

I will try and salvage out of the other four boxes to make 4 complete wardrobes before they collect the damaged ones on Monday. But it's difficult, they are so large and heavy I'm going to struggle finding space to unpack/repack.

Why did they take it to a football pitch?

If you want it home safely, hire a minivan (or like others' have suggested take the car) and get it yourself. I'd definitely be getting a refund on that for the delivery as well as the broken bits.

I can't fit in my car.

Yes will be getting some refunds / compensation for sure. I have photos I will be opening a complaint with.

I've managed to salvage parts out of multiple damaged boxes for one more build so far. And I have two panels with some slight damage that I might be able to live with. One box left to look through.

Hiring a van is a good idea it's just double the cost of delivery and why should that be the only way to get good quality products delivered? Delivery isn't free with IKEA btw- it cost £50!

They told me I had to call up, that I couldn't refuse delivery on the door. That may be false but it's what they told me.

And with four wardrobes delivered, I was hoping to have enough parts to get the two I wanted to build immediately done.

All boxes opened.

Out of 8 packs I have 3 sets that are good.

One set that I might be able to live with. The damage is at the back (Melamine broken off a small section) but on the inside face so will be visible.

Not sure whether to accept it or not.

Heres the kind of damage Im getting. Sometimes the exterior of the box is damaged so you can immediately see the inside is damaged, but other times the box seems ok and when you open it up you find damaged parts. It is all on visible areas especially the front face of the panels.

Spoke to Ikea. Exchange set up for one unit next Friday.

They are coming for the original four units tomorrow as scheduled on Friday when the original four were damaged.

£10 refund on the delivery charge.

They will be getting a letter too after all this is done.

Ah gotcha, are you sure it's double? I'm guessing you don't have Zipcar/Zipvan near you? I'm in London so hiring a mini one for an hour or two is about £20 I think. It does suck and is more hassle, but if you're having issues with delivery like yourself, it's the only way to sort it out.

It's about 80 quid a day to hire a van here, don't know if there are any 2-3 hour hire options.

Would have been cheaper to hire one if their vans.

I assume they're all the same and ours offers 3hrs for £30.

I didn't know they did it, otherwise would have.

Problem is though, if you get home and find damage to a piece, do you then need the van again to return it or do they use their delivery/collection service?

10 refund from 50? eh?

The units theyve given you are in worse condition that the ones Ive bough in bargain corner.

Theres no chance at all I'dbehappy other than a full refund of the delivery charges and delivery of a set of non damaged units

Standard delivery is £40, express delivery which I'd paid for is £50. All they would do is refund me the difference.

Hi all. My 4 wardrobes are built and now I need to go and buy the doors.

After the mess with delivery damage I am wondering can I get 2400 X 550mm X 50mm boxes (4 packs) in my car? I have a BMW 3 series estate. Will measure it of course but I think the boxes will have to go over the front seat somehow and be propped up on the dash.

getting glass or wood doors? Normal or sliding? I have glass doors and they are very heavy, just bear that in mind if collecting/unloading them on your own (they are also heavy and awkward to hang on your own)

Getting sliding doors, but the plain fronted flat ones not the modular or glass panelled ones.

Just bear in mind most of the sliding doors are 75cm wide as opposed to 50cm. Not convinced you'd get them in a 3 series
They were 55cm wide boxes, 2.4m long. I got the first set in ok, perched over the front passenger seat laid as flat as possible. Decided against trying to get 2 pairs in at once so going back for the 2nd pair tonight.
