Hi,

I'm in process of putting my 40" TV up on the wall. I currently have a 2.1 setup on my TV unit/stand but am it might be a good idea to get a 5.1 setup where i can mount them on the walls.

I was thinking I would spend about £125.

Any suggestions?

Any tips on putting them on the wall, dealing with the wires etc

Also any suggestions for wall mounts for my DVD player, SkyBox, Console etc

Am very noob at this but am spening a lot on carpet and sofa so dont want to bodge it!

Cheers,
Achilles

My existing 2.1 is good but old, i wasnt planning on using it. Was thinking get a new 5.1 setup where speakers are wall mountable. Pref coming with all thats needed to mount them on the wall.

room layout would be good? AV Amps these days can take HDMI input. You COULD buy an amp run everything into the amp then the amp to the tv. Would cost more to set up initially but would work out overall a better solution?

Think rectangle room, tv mounted on wall, sofa pointed at it. Was thinking 1 speaker on wall each side of tv, 1 below tv and 2 on wall behind sofa. Sub on floor ideally behind TV. Thing im not sure on is the wires, they will have to be really long to go around the edges of the ceeling to get from speakers / sub behind sofa to TV.

Only use TV occasionally for DVD etc not watching it all night every night so doesnt need to be a fantastic sound solution just look tidy and not sound weak and tinny.

Why don't you just get some floor standers and route the wires under the carpet? That's what I've dine, although mine are only satellite rears mounted on omnimount mounts.

Yup should be fine that cable. Just make sure you have enough, so you don't have to rip up the new carpet again.

Should be fine. Its 3m from front to back wall. Need it for the 2 back speakers.

Sssume its 2 strips per speaker? Might be 1?? So allowing extra 6m per strip the 25 i got will be fine

I cant seem to find any 5.1 speakers though. Need ones that use this wire not a jack. Will spend up to £180.

Suggestions please!!!

Meh, ordered this.

I asked if you needed an AMP, not mega bass. An amp = amplifier = receiver. You half asked and answered questions then impulse purchased!

for 5.1 you can either have an all in one system OR an AV amp & a speaker set.

All of this is now irrelevant of course as your now sorted. If you had answered all the questions though, it might have saved u agro.

Enjoy your new setup :)
