hi i,ve bought a dvd/recorder and want to get a home cinema sound system to compliment it.could people advise me what i need?it has optical and co-axial outputs.recommendations greatly received thanks :D

You need an AV amp and suitable speakers

You have two choices; seperates or an integrated system

Integrated will be cheaper, seperates are almost always superior

Whats you budget, how big is the room, will you want to play music?

You an use optical or coax it won't make any decernable difference

ok thanks for reply matblack, firstly room is quite small ie around 16ftx13ft,music not necessay as i have a midi system, budget is reasonably open.i had an lg home cinema system before, you know the dvd type.but now i,ve bought the dvdr i would like a similar sound.i realise you can buy a stand alone home cinema sound system, maybe this is adequate but i,ve seen threads where these dont get good ratings.thought maybe a motr amplifier and seperate speakers/sub would suit my needs.so any ideas along that line and where to look/buy would be great.ps if people think the integrated type are ok let me know.thanks all

creative-audio.co.uk are a great place for off the shelf AV setups, I'd highly reccomend there Denon 1906 AVR amp and Kef 1005 package but they do plenty of other combo deals so you can pick something to your budget. The package mentioned is £520.

ok popped into my local sony centre and they had these 2 systems available
sony ht-ddw670 and sony ht-ss600 any thoughts?
ps the room size this is meant for is approx 16x13 feet main use 2x dvd players.thanks :p

i dont know about the particular ones you have mentioned, but sony tend to make under performing and overpriced stuff when it comes to speakers. The denon kef setup mentioned before will almost definitely be better imo.
