Hi currently got a set of kef eggs which I've had for about 10 years. The surrounds are the 2005.1 ones I think with a 3005 centre. Not unhappy with the kef but fancy a change and looking at something along the lines of the q acoustics 7000i. Will spend upto around. 800. I'm not really up on what's out there so could anyone recommend speakers which are similar in size to the kerfs and would be a step up. Thanks

Personally I think you will need to step up to a physically bigger speaker to get a decent jump in sound quality. All the ones around the kef egg size are pretty equal from the ones I've listened to. I still use my kef eggs for rear duties, I think there the 3000 ones. They still sound decent. The fronts were swapped a long time ago for proper sized speakers. It's the only way to get the rich, full bodied sound. This makes a huge difference especially for the centre speaker. Voices actually sound deep and powerful.

I went the monitor audio route but try and listen to what sounds good to your ears with the electronics you have. I plumped for GS10s up front. A little latter I replaced the egg centre with an RSLCR. Did look at the GS centre but it was just to big for my av unit. Next on the shopping list was a decent sub. Went for BK Monilith. Bloody huge but awesome.

These tiny speakers just can't shift the air IMO. There ok in small rooms if your prepared to live with there're restrictions.

Just my 2 cents but upgrade in parts if you can't get the gear you want in a single hit. It's worth it in the end.

Thanks mate. Too be honest I think I half knew that but at present the way the room I laid out by tv stand couldn't fit full size speakers just smaller ones. It could accommodate slightly bigger rectangular ones but nothing much bigger.

May wait until we move to bigger house in a few years as long term plan is that I'm going to have a games and basic home cinema room

Dali Zensor 3 seem to be taking the world by storm at the moment. There not to big, not to expensive and sound very nice. You could get them first, then the matching center when funds allow and so on.

I'm a fan of the monitor audio sound but appreciate that to some they can some a touch clinical.

They look nice actually. If I just got the centre and two fronts would it matter that the sub is kef as are surrounds?

Not at all. It's more important the front 3 channels are a tonal match to be honest. The eggs will do you fine for a while. As will the sub to be fair, although I would upgrade that before the rears. BK do some fantastic subs are very good prices. All hand made in the uk and their customer service is top notch. Gemini 2 is little over £200 and will give a massive improvement over the kef you have.

Tried the dalis and I've got to say I was mega impressed but they are a lot bigger than expected and sadly won't fit in my unit

When you say wont fit in the unit do you mean in the compartments under the TV?

You can get curved cantilever units that would look well in a corner and raise the tv off the unit so you can place centre speaker. Make you TV look as if it floating also which is pretty cool

Yes. My Stand is one that came with a sagem hd45 tv that I replaced ages ago. It has two shelves underneath and the top shelf where speakers are now isn't tall enough for the side speakers to fit height wise nor will the three speakers fit width ways.

I half look at them but don't really want the tv any higher as already obstructs window a little plus I've got a bean bag and tend sit on the front so current height is right. But that said are there any good websites that sell them that you know off

How about Q Acoustics? You can go for the 2000i range, the speakers that come with them are 22cm in height, or can go for the bookshelf type which is about 26cm in height or floorstanders.

Only heard good things about them, if I had the money I'd go for them, at the moment awaiting delivery of my monitor audio vectors.

Hmm think the 2000s would fit. I've got 9 inch of height and 34 width to play with. Think I asked about them at the shop and they suggested that they wouldn't be any better than my kefs

They probably wouldn't be, with your kind of budget unless you nab a bargain or 2nd hand its likely to be a sidestep as opposed to an upgrade.
