Broken window fallacy. If the money wasn't wasted on the lottery by all those that didn't win, it could have been put to better use.

unlikely the lotto fund spends loads of good stuff otherwise people would have just bought another pack of fags or a bar of chocolate.

Depends on the demographic - if we're talking about some chav mum with limited resources who's spending a % of her dole money on tickets etc.. then yes - we'd have got the revenue from her spending it on other things etc..

For others with regular jobs, savings etc.. a £1 a week spend on a ticket or contribution to work syndicate etc.. is perhpas money that wouldn't have otherwise have been spent, isn't going to change their spending on other goods/services as per normal and therefore this lottery is stimulating spending.

What would have happened in imaginary land does not matter. There are a billion "if's" but the fact of the matter is the money was spent on the lottery and he has contributed.

Erm... you really think that gets declared?

Not that I'd claim to be an expert or anything but I'd expect that for the non street walking smack head variety i.e. 'independent escorts' etc.. then yes some of it would be declared.

Like lots of self employed people dealing with cash I doubt they're entirely honest about declaring all of it. But even if not declared then it will just be spent on drugs etc.. the profits from which will in turn be spent by the dealers on gold chains and 4x4s. ;)

So you wouldn't feel embarrassed in the slightest if you had to go on the brew after winning MILLIONS a few years previous?
I know I would.

Just because he has paid tax doesn't excuse him from being a complete idiot and then wanting more free money.

He is a complete idiot however IQ does not determine the right to job seekers allowance.

He hasn't contributed any more than if the money had been spent in the usual way by the original ticket purchasers. He's contributed less, given that much went on untaxed goods and services.

Even if he spends the rest of his life on the dole he'll have probably paid more in VAT/taxes than most other working class people ever will in their lifetime.

I guess that means he's made a bigger contribution to society than all of you, suck it. :p

depends how much money he actually spent in this country it sounds like he shot off to spain fairly quickly so i'd imagine the majority of his money was spend outside of our country

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"Splashing out £370,000 to buy seven houses."

Christ, cant even buy ONE decent 4 bedroom house here for that really!

House prices have increased a lot over the years, so £370k would have gone much further in 1997...

It would if they were entitled 'escorts', et cetera.

Google 'Ronaldo Nani Anderson Hookers'; the women involved openly natter to the rags about getting paid to 'party' with aforementioned football stars and then sleeping with them. Apparantly they're safe as long they don't literally mention they are paid money to sleep with them...

I'd rather that money be out in the public than in his bank account, especially the chavs £9 million.

They had it, they lost it, its now in shared out amongst 1000's of other people, probably being put back on the lotto ;)
