£5/600

do you have any parts to start with, or is that £500-600 to cover everything?

Even an old SSD in a drawer etc will help in this climate.

hiya all, what would 5/600 build me small pc wise? used for 1080p/1440p gaming, dont need the latest tech, ddr4 would be fine.
I think you are really going to struggle with that budget given current prices.

I've just thrown a bunch of the cheaper end components in a basket without double checking compatability etc and I'm sure someone will come along and say such and such component would be better because of xyz so don't order it but it might give you a better idea of current prices:

EDIT: I completly ignored your "Small PC" request when I threw the basket together, small case, SFF PSU etc would bump the price up even further. Overclockers do stock a few micro PC's but then you can't add a GPU easily and you said you wanted it for gaming...

Overclockers LIAN A3 case / PSU bundle might scratch the small case itch but at a higher price and you would need to then check everything fits and whether you wanted an AIO which would bump the price up even more...

If I was on a tight budget I'd lean towards getting a better cpu than spending a lot on the case and an AIO...

His first post says it is for gaming otherwise a secondhand ex business mini hp, dell etc might have suited but even the larger SFF versions have low spec PSU's and low power / low profile GPU's are thin on the ground and generally poor value / slow.

You might get a secondhand AM4 / 10th gen intel PC within their budget if you ignored the small case size requirement but its a bit of a minefield with a lot of junk being sold with ancient components listed as being W11 when the hardware doesn't meet the requirements.

ASRock deskmeet X300

That would give an 8 litre, but you’d be looking at over £600

Its good to have a little competition in the market but its priced too close to an RTX5060 which is faster...

Interesting case / mobo combo but that comes out at just over £900 which is way over OP's budget; its sad that entry level PC's are so expensive I'm in a similar boat and need a new system but don't want to pay the crazy prices even though I could afford to.

Maybe if you pick those components, but why would you…

It's the hardware list you posted and they are amongst the cheapest components Overclockers sell, you aren't getting those parts for £500-600 new regardless of where you shop.

You listed 32GB of ram and 512GB of storage is too small for a gaming PC hence the cheapest 1TB NVME they had listed at the time I posted the list above yours, if you hadn't noticed prices are absurd everywhere.

Feel free to post your own selection of components and prices from Overclockers using new not B grade parts.

I didn’t list any storage but you don’t a 1tb SSD for gaming. 32GB of RAM is plenty of memory too…

You said "A SSD" modern games are massive it would be complete folly to buy a small SSD for a gaming PC:

Witcher3 50GB
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced 65GB
Halo: Campaign Evolved 100GB
Call of Duty®: Black Ops III 100GB
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™ 90GB
Cyberpunk 2077 70GB
DOOM: The Dark Ages 100GB

"32GB of RAM is plenty of memory too…"
Which is what I listed because you specced 4x 8GB 3200 sticks, I only put 16GB in the list I threw together so they had an idea how bad prices are I just doubled it when I priced your list.

So 2 kits each containing 2 sticks of 8GB DDR4 3200 Adata at Overclockers which came to £220 because ram prices are crazy.

Personally I wouldn't fit 4 sticks of ram in an AM4 board and expect it to work at 3200 without any problems Overclockers actually have some 16GB sticks which work out a little cheaper but it only knocks £15 of the total.

1 X ADATA XPG SPECTRIX D35G RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - £205.99

Throw a list together with the parts you said he should get and post it; it will be closer to £800-900 than his £500-600 budget which is why a lot of people aren't building new PC's at the moment.
