Is the 5 a day that your suppose to have both fruit and veg?

I think i may have gone overboard on the fruit today.

Ive had the following

2 apples
2 oranges
3 bananas
1 kiwi
frozen berries
1/2 a litre of fresh orange juice

veg ive had brocolli and broad beans, a tin of beansprouts aswell if they count

Are you a vegetarian?

I can't remember a time when I've had over 4 a day.

Am I going to die :( ?

Yes, due to don status.

It is required a Don has 10 fruits a day. You failed. Goodbye.

I have fruit a lot tbh, I like it :D

Lol, quite a lot. I never have that much.

I take a variety of vitamin tablet things and they include 100% RDA of that particular thing. Does that mean if I eat any fruit at all it's bad as it's over my RDA?

neither do i usually, but im hammering fruit given to me by grand parents when i went home by making 2 smoothies a day :)

Zefan - no, i also ate 2 tins of tuna aswell but i wouldnt really class it as meat

On detox and eat healthy mission for a while as im not going to the gym anymore and have started getting fat again

The five a day is fruit and veg combined. It probably isn't best to get it all from fruit though as fruit tends to contain quite a lot of sugar. Personally I aim for at least 4 veg (which I can easily get in my evening meal alone) and 2 fruit a day.

Can it be 4 times the amount of the same type of veg? So could i just eat a laod of brocolli instead of coliflour, beans or whatever? If so whats the size of the portion of the '1' out of the 5 (in grams or whatever)

I probably covered 4 out of the amount of beans and brocolli i ate anyway

It's 5 portions of different fruits and vegetables per day. Pulped stuff you drink is ok and e.g. fresh juices too.

Having an entire cartoon of apply juice just counts as one.

We're all going to die.

Eating too much fruit can be bad for you, same as having too much of anything really. Yes, you've gone overboard today, but if you have a decent gut you should be ok.

I generally eat around 5-7 oranges 2 bananas + other assorted fruit and veg depending on how i feel.

I take a multi vitamin and ussually eat 2 + a day. Occassionaly up to 5.

The multi vitamin ensures I get a good amount in me.

A vitamin pill is not really a substitute for fruit and veg. Supplements are just that, supplements ;) It is much harder for the body to absorb nutrients when they come just once a day in the form of a pill which makes it likely that a lot the vitamins will just be washed out and not absorbed. Also without enough fruit and veg you will probably not be getting enough fibre.

I probably average about 3. If you cook your own meals from scratch then it is usually difficult not to include at least 2 in the recipe. Even homemade burgers contain most of an onion, mince has carrot and onion, spaghetti bolognese has various stuff including tomatoes etc etc. Glass of orange juice in the morning, one piece of fruit and day and you are on 4 straight away.

I agree, which is why I make sure I have atleast two real sources a day as well. Unfortunately, its just not always practical or affordable to have 5/6 a day. I get plenty of fibre in my meals you'll be pleased to hear. :)
