I'm assuming you're over the age of 17/18, and I'd pretty much gather the OP was talking about "children" under the age ad 17/18 at least because for example;

Buying clothes for your son (or offspring) who is (are) 25 is not buying children's clothes, it's buying clothes for your child (or children), two incredibly different things.

Once they have been given to you they can be considered to be their children's clothes, but still not "children's clothes" as you are not everyone's son/daughter.

In today's English language someone can be considered a child when general before puberty or <18 years old. If someone is over that age, or past that particular event then they can be considered someone's child, but still not "a child".

Under your rules of language/genealogy everyone is "a child" even if you apply that rule to the question asked it would still be illogical for someone to specifically state "children's clothes" and mean everyone, it does not make grammatical sense.
