Does anyone have one of these? A personal, five year plan to set out what they want to do/see/achieve over the next 5 years? Written down, planned with all requirements you need in order to achieve your goals?

If so, how is it going? What are you aiming for?

If not, why not?

I don't write goals down but I do keep them in my head. 5 years time ide like to have a driving license / car and find a job in in either web design or IT technician and be building up my savings. (Standing order in to a savings account).

Nope. Anything could change in between those 5 years, and besides, impulsiveness can be good... sometimes.

I have objectives that I'd like to have made by then. But I don't know where I'll be in five years from now...

I wrote one of these on my phone whilst being a passanger on a long car trip...

It expires on 01-09-2014, and theres only 2 things really left on it:

Earn £30K or more - Getting close.

Have a mortgage - I hope the grilfriend and I can scrape a nice deposit together over the next 2.5 years.

I'm fairly goal driven, so I like things like this.

i have a rough plan on where i want to be and i know how to get there. but some things i cannot control which is why i leave it quite open.

Things change, so I don't like such big plans, but

But over the next few years I want to train and do Kilimanjaro and learn to dive and paraglide and generally change my lifestyle.

I live in the moment, play everything by ear and make my own luck. So far at 31 things are working very well. Excellent job, mortgage, wife and 2 kids.

Every 3-6 months something normally throws a curveball at me pushing me onto a completely different track, usually a sidestep. Wouldn't mind somethings staying the same for more than a couple of years to get some stability!

I don't have anything written down as such, but now you mention it that seems like a good idea, I might write them out and stick them on a wall somewhere just so everything feels more real and I keep my goals in mind...

Anyway, off the top of my head, my current plan would be:
Get a 2:1 + in my MEng
Get some work/work experience done every summer, ideally in places that might lead towards a graduate job for me at some point, but wouldn't be the end of the world if I just got some random shop assistant job at least in the next 2 summers. (I have never had a job).
Get properly involved in some society at uni and be on the exec, simultaneously giving good job interview stuff, and helping me overcome my fear that I'll let people down when they start expecting me to do stuff, as well as it probably being enjoyable.
Try new stuff in general, and put some effort into each 'new thing' to give it all a fair chance.
Find a nice girl.
Conquer my currently dominant procrastinator, and do stuff with my time that I actually want to do. (e.g. read books that are on my list, get better at German, or start Mandarin).

So, after 5 years I should be confident, willing to take risks, making the most of my time doing things that I enjoy, and in a promising career with a good degree.

I would never able to set a five year plan for anything. I'm too eager and the thought of having to "wait" five years to fully achieve something would put me off the whole thing.

I have some rough ideas jotted down. But it's more the fun things I want to do and learn as those are what I tend to neglect. Career-wise, mortgage-wise I'm fairly comfortable. But I really need to crack on and do some travelling and get some guitar lessons :)

Get on the property ladder and do a house up.

Qualify as a Plumber (already a fully qualified Electrician).

Start own business in renewables/renovation.

Have either a brand new Audi or BMW (well you have to it's just how it goes).

Become a PADI qualified Scuba Diver.

Emigrate to Australia.

*See how all the above applies?*

EDIT: Ignore the car bit I was just showing off :)

In 5 years the world will be a totally different place. I like living day by day and taking opportunities as they arise.
