50" advice needed

I've got a 50V20 and it's an amazing bit of kit - could not be happier with it - the blacks will be far deeper than that of the G20 and a number of other things too - check out AVForums for more info 
Sounds to me like you really just want a Panny, regardless of any common sense
edit: Not that that's a bad thing, when you have your mind made up you have your mind made up!
Problem is if you see a TV that has better picture quality (in your eyes) but buy the cheaper one, you'll endlessly be thinking that the tv/film/etc you're watching would have looked better on the other screen...
Guess it comes down to how picky you are and whether you can afford to spend that much more on the TV you want.
I've heard that there is a visible difference between the two and that the V20 is another step up (especially regarding blacks), but then again some people notice these things more than others.
100% right, however I look at it from the point of view that im not spending 100% more money to get a ~20% better picture. Instead I could have a very decent 5.1 setup (Sony STR-DH810 amp and Q-Acoustics 5.1 for instance) AND a 50" telly for the same money. Would I enjoy the whole experience more than the 20% better picture?
In the above example change the sound system for any other product you don't already have, obviously.
Sound isn't an issue mate. I have a arcam avr280 with monitor audio gs speakers. They will do for now. One day I'll get the pl range..... One day

there I'll have one final look at a few tvs. Failing that I'm coming home and I think I am just going to order a v20. I can get one for 200 more than the g20. I just know I would be kicking myself if I went for the lesser option for the sake of £200

hmmm, I need to stop reading all these forums, after trawling through a huge thread on AVForums on the V20 im now put off buying that 
Pages and pages of people mentioning the same issues, floating blacks, banding, buzzing. bloody shocking on what is a high end model.
Bit of a loss what to get now, seriously considering just sticking with my 42" panny TX70, it may not be full HD but its got a decent picture and none of faults of the supposed hi end model.

I was in the same boat, I was sure I wanted a Panny, viewed many and read reviews, it seemed the Panny got worse with age while the LG got better.
My 590 is pretty good, in my opinion it is better than the Panny, I have no problems with blacks and the image has only improved since I bought it. Image retention was noticeable but seems less of an issue as the screen gets used, logo's that did give image retention don't seem to affect the screen now, my kids watch Cartoon Network and it used to be visible when I got home, these days there is no retention of the CN logo so I can only assume it is due to the screen improving with age.
I never had any buzzing with my set when new, but these days at around 6am 7am or when it is pretty quiet, during bright scenes if the volume is off a slight buzz can be heard from a metre or two away here.
I should add that it is THX certified and pretty much out of the box when set on THX mode it is bang on, I reduced some settings due to it being recommended while it got it's first 200h use, but that quickly got forgot, it is on all the time (family) and THX seemed to be the family preference, not done any tweaking updating or screen whitewash, bought the 590 over it's cheaper sibling simply for the THX certification.
I got mine for £770 with a five year guarantee and two free QED HDMI cables. My only regret is not waiting for the 60" instead.

Well ive just spent another 3 hours looking at TVs, this time with my 10 year old son. Spent a while looking at the PK590 again and no matter how much I tried I just couldnt get the black levels to a level I was happy with (and this was in 3 shops now). Colour and detail were spot on but black levels were some way short of what I want from a TV.
Well after days of faffing over whether to buy one or not I have finally bittten the bullet and ordered a V20. All the horror stories kept putting me off but every time I went looking at other TVs there was a G20 or V20 next to them that looked just so much better. And as hard as I tried I couldnt see any of the issues on the TVs in the stores.
It arrives tomorrow and hopefully it wont have any of the nasties, if it does its going straight back and ill hang fire until next year.

Good choice on the V20 - what size did you go for? (50" at a guess)
Hopefully you won't see any of the issues others seem to pick up on but yea if you do then get it refunded within a few days to a week and wait to see what this years models will bring to the table

yeh got the 50" version. I called the company I ordered from and they are aware of the floating black issue, as well as the posterisation that effects some sets. I told them if my set shows them I will be returning it, they said no problem.
Fingers crossed it will be as spot on as my PX70 which has been a fantastic TV

Well new TV has just arrived. its actually lighter then the 40" PX70.
Just got it setup, Wifi etc, then it said it needed to do a sytem update so it did that. I have just watched it for a bit and left it running downstairs while I carry on working.
It does have a very slight buzz, but only the same as my PX70 and every other plasma I have had. So far 'touch wood' I cant see any floating blacks or the posterisation issues. Gonna make sure everything is spot on before I take all the protective films off the case just in case it needs to go back, but so far its looking stunning

Had it a few days now, at first I thought I had got away without it showing a single known fault, that was until I watched a DVD with black bars top and bottom the night before last. twice throughout the film I noticed the dreaded 'floating blacks'. If I wasnt constantly watching for them they would have prob gone un noticed, but as it was I was still anoyed as hell.
The company I bought it from do a 14 day no questions asked full refund if I want so I am going to see how it goes, I havent seen a single issue since.
Overall the TV is simply fantastic. To say im a picky so is a understatement but the picture on this thing is stunning when fed a decent source. The great black levels and detail give the image a stunning depth I havent seen on any other TV other than the now defunct Kuro.
It seems the new G20s and V20 are showing a lot less faults then the early ones. Mine hardly make a noise at all, suffers from no polarisation, and the black bars on widescreen films have flashed a lighter shade twice in 3 days of watching the TV. They also say that if anything the problems lessen over time.
Its frustrating to pay nearly £1400 for a TV and it not be perfect but such is life. Ive researched like mad and there is just such thing as a fault free TV it seems these days. The LG 990 would have been my second choice but the black levels arent as good, plus it suffers a bit of lag which would bug me in games and it have known issues with image retention.
Im gonna give my TV another week, if im not happy ill send it back and wait until next years models come out. But I can see myself keeping it, the TV is so damn good 99% of the time that the very slight floating black issue I have is not enough to take the shine off it.
