so yesterday i picked up a yoga 510, as per sig its the APU version, now while it seems snappy enough for what it is, it will need a fresh install of windows(2nd hand buy) and so im thinking ill take the opportunity to upgrade it, but to make it seem worthy i want 480gb-512gb and so far i can get a 500gb sshd seagate from £38 and have seen a 480gb sandisk ssd for £40 odd for example, but in my case, what would be the better solution for budget?

Clearly the SSD is the better choice. Especially as the price difference is so small.
It's like asking should I get a Dacia or an Audi...lol
They both do the same job, but one's more comfortable than the other...

thanks for reply and yes i know, but for the price point some of the ssd choices are so so, as someone who owns a few ssd drives im well aware of them being better, but that wasnt the meaning behind the question lol, i dont want to spend 40-50 on a crappy ssd(different purpose to my KingSpec purchases) when the sshd was the better choice overall for example.

what do you mean ones more comfortable than the other?

I dont think a SSHD will ever be the better choice.

Avoid the DRAM less SSDs and you're sorted. Sandisk do have some DRAM less drives, just check before you buy. Theres other similarly priced SSDs available.

well where im looking, these are my choices for ssd models that are 480gb, there are some cheap brand options for less, but obviously they be worth to avoid, normally i see WDB/G models i go for them, but even for a small fraction i dont want to spend over 50 as i need ram too.

SanDisk SSD PLUS 480 GB
Kingston SSD A400
Crucial BX500 CT480BX500SSD1

Learning NS200 is cheap and has DRAM cache.

The Sandisk you mention will probably have DRAM cache (only thr 480GB version did) but Sandisk are shifty and change the specs without changing the model name.

The Crucial is DRAMless so I'd avoid that.

im tempted by the sandisk more to the fact its £45 and allows me to include an 8gb memory stick too(£80 budget for both), but is it worth the gamble on the cache thing you speak of? i could just upgrade the memory and wait till.

actually scratch that, just noticed a refund i put it has been added to my zon wallet, so that saves me £17, so going to order 8gb ram and the 500gb WDB ssd which is a tad over £50 and i know what WD drives are like owning some already, so overall seems best solution, nearly went for 860 evo, but extra too much.

There's literally no point in buying a hybrid drive.

If you want cheap bulk storage then just get a regular HDD spin drive.

SSD for everything else.
