I just sold my iPod Touch and in need of a grab and go music player - i.e. plays music only, don't really need anything fancy and my budget is £50.

The Shuffle just keeps standing out, eventhough Creative's Stone has double the memory, there's something about it I'm not taking an interest. I listen to my music on the go, walking / cycling to / from uni, on the train e.t.c.

I've also got a IEM, the Mylar XB (white:rolleyes:), to match with the Shuffle

So... anyone can recommend me something I can grab off the high street / online before Friday morning, when I hit town to grab a Shuffle...?

Much appreciated.

Hmm... I didn't realised it's *that* much cheaper now... trouble is, as posted in another thread, it takes a *long* time to transfer music over?

I know it's drag and drop but does anyone knows if it integrate with iTune's Smart Playlist at all?

get a lg vuity free on contract :p mp3 players are a waste of space. phones do what they do and more :p

They do the same but not as well, my MP3 player has a higher quality screen, better video playback, more codec support, more storage (expandable), better sound quality and better battery life than any phone being used as an MP3 player.

I don't think transfer speeds are as bad as shown in that thread somehow, I would expect at least 2-3mb/s. No idea if you can integrate it with iTunes.

If you are a chav that plays their music on loudspeaker then yeah its perfect (why do people/kids do this  ), for anyone who vaguely cares about sound quality mobiles arent even considered (but I would say that about Apples MP3 players ;))...

For the price its hard to ignore the Zen Stone...

.....anything but the shuffle. 1gb for 50 quid? that's daylight robbery. :D

it just plays in order through your folder structure. you can skip tracks within folders or skip whole folders at a time. it also has a shuffle option. that's pretty much it. but even with the slow transfers, i'd still recommend it. :)

the great thing with todays technology is that there are things called wireless mobile headphones!

he said its going to be for cycling short walks to uni etc so personally 50 quid on something you'll hardly use is a waste :p especially when a phone can do the same for the purpose :p

I've always found things like the ipod a waste of time. just another thing to fill your pocket with that you will only use when your sitting on a train/bus. and I drive.

I caved in, ordered the Stone, all in and will arrive tomorrow - shall give it my view :)

Since it's drag and drop, I don't think I'll worry too much on integration with iTunes, will just drag and drop what I want into it. For that price, 4GB, it was really hard to resist!

Shame about the reviewed battery life but it'll do me.

I've got a SE W880i mobile, as good as the Sony Walkman range are, I utterly hate the "cable" they use and none of the aftermarket socket/short adaptor works on my W880i anyway. It also really drains my mobile battery, never a big fan of phone + music use at the same time - thus I hate the Apple iPhone but loved the iPod Touch.

I'll post my review as soon as I get it and have a gander.

Because I initially needed £150 invested to a car, which has now changed to helping my mum with her "last minute family emergency" plane ticket.

I sold the iPod Touch for £200 and investing that £50 from it for a simpler player - as much as I love the iPod Touch, I needed the money more and I just need something that plays music, decently, without much fancy stuff.

I guess you haven't seen any of the pda phones running windows then. Because they beat your mp3 player in all those departments. ;)

Pretty sure most of those are pretty expensive (I think the floor is around £40 - half decent ones anyway :p). Just dont understand why people think that the sound produced out of their mobile phone is adequate because most of the time its not.

Its the same with camera phones where people think they are as capable as point and click digi cameras of the same megapixel...

Covergence is a great thing but dont expect the device to be perfect, rather jack of all trades, master of none...

phones dont really make good mp3 players. my little sony wipes the floor with all of them. as for a pda, well. it would depend entirely on the ui and the battery life for me. and sound quality, which is paramount obviously.

well - if I want to appreciate music properly, I will sit in my bedroom with my 7.1 gigaworks on at a nice volume. I will only EVER listen to music "on the move" if Im on my own shopping for a good 3 hours. and even then Im not really paying attention to the music - "its just there".

I got a pair of sony dr-bt30q bluetooth headphones. they are amazing. they have an inbuilt microphone, they have a retractable cord from ear to ear with loads of room, a remote to flick from track to track, volume switch, connect automatically from turn on, sound (to me) is great (for bluetooth headphones) and I dont even get wires dangling everywhere. best of all? I paid £17.99 for them.

oh and they work on pc's just as good too.

I doubt that they beat mine in storage (up to 64gb atm), screen quality as well as it uses a 24-bit screen (they may match it).
Sound quality won't be as good (otherwise you'd get every 'audiophile' on the planet using them) and the battery life while using it for music is probably as good but not much better.

Then there's the fact they are generally much larger and more expensive.

No, but I do have over 40gb of music and much more in video. I would much rather have it all on there so I can listen to what I want whenever. And if I were to use FLAC/Wav (which, correct me if I am wrong the Viewty does not support) my music would be about 140gb.

And it isn't 'free on contract' is it, a minimum of £20 a month (£240).
