Will it blen.. er erm will it fit? :o I remember transporting a 42" in my Mk1 focus many moons ago but have no idea with this car. Panasonic TX-P50U30B if anyone has one.

Thanks :D

I bought one home in the back of the TT a few weeks ago so you should be fine, was taken from box and bubble wrapped though

It has never been a problem for my plasma, despite the amount of times it has been transported flat.

Driving without a seatbelt has never been a problem for me - doesn't make it a good idea though :P

When I bought my 50" a few years back, it only just went in a range rover upright, so I can't see it going in a 3 series. There is a lot of packaging on top of the size of the tv

Just pack it the same as glass. If supported properly then flat is fine. My 50in Kuro went flat in a focus

I assume this isn't including the box?

When I bought my 42" Plasma, the only car big enough to fit the, frankly ridiculously large box in, was a friends Toyota Previa.

Is the glass behind a plasma fully supported across the whole of the screen?

Because if not you only really have support from where I assume it will be bonded somehow to the frame that makes up the panel unit(not the plastic part).

Thus you might get a bit of deflection in the centre of the screen which could cause it to crack given its large surface area? With glass sheets at least you can ensure you can support it at varying points across the face of the glass itself , rather than just at the edges. Also different plasmas may uses varying thicknesses of glass depending on the price ?

IF this is not the case then there would be no problem providing you wouldnt hit a monster pot hole!

I have seen a couple of screens cracked after being transported flat by customers bringing them in for repair!

I'm gonna guess nopes, at least not without removing some/all packaging. Can't you just get a black cab back from the shop ?

You'd transport a large £1000 piece of glass flat over bumpy roads then?

Now hang on, that's not what I said. I disagreed with your comment about transporting them flat, I never said anything about bumpy roads.

Contrary to this, we've transported plasmas between London-Brighton-Portsmouth a few times with no issues at all.

The topic is about transporting a Plasma in a car - bumpy roads pretty much goes without saying.

I'm sure people have got away with it, that doesn't mean it's a good idea and quite frankly, frivolously suggesting that this advice is an old wives tale that could so very easily lead to someone trying it themselves and trashing their new £1k TV (it can and does happen) is somewhat irresponsible.
