Morning all,

I fancy getting some floor standers for my living room, they'll be connected to an Marantz NR1506 receiver.
The main use of the receiver is TV, films and PS4 watching.

I will occasionally listen to music via the amp, but it's not that often.

I am currently using a pair of Wharfdale 9.1s which are great but I want to try out a pair of floor standers, mainly for the aesthetic

So any recommendations for speakers?

Monitor audio is what i recommend as IMO they offer very good value for money. however Q acoustics do to.

when your saying second hand here you do realise it's collection only and therefore what we say has zero impact. effectively you will only be able to choose from whatever is available locally at the time.

I live in glasgow. stuff comes up for sale within a 45 minute drive once a year. so i'm limited to whatever comes up.

Once I've figured out what ones I want, I'll then keep a look out for them

I'd highly recommend Tannoy DC6T-SE's if you can find them - shame they're now out of production. I recently upgraded from them to some Precision 6.2's (which was a bargain i couldn't afford to miss ;) ), but the audio quality jump from some well reviewed KEF IQ5SE's was massive to me.

The Precision and DC6T-SE are barely any different to my ears, i just wanted the higher spec as i became a Tannoy fanboy :)

The Cambridge Audio Aero 6 is excellent value for money if you can locate a pair - originally sold at £600 and considered a bargain at that price by the enthusiast magazines, later reduced to £350-400.

check the audio-t website. lists all the 2nd hand / ex demo stuff. I think they even allow you order to your nearest store.

I would recommend the Q acoustic 3050's, they sound great, I tried them at richersounds but instead went for smaller speakers, because they're too big for my living room (which is tiny).

Go and have a listen to a few speakers. Last time I heard Monitor Audio I found them a bit clinical and hard on the ears.

they pair well with a warmer amp like Yamaha. don't pair so well with more flatter amps like Sony is it that are known for their more flat sound?

yamaha, marantz, denon, nad are the ones that suit monitor audio the best.

For 500quid s/h you should be able to get a pair of MA Silver 6. Focal 726/826 is worth a listen to. The finish of the bottom end Focal speakers isn't great though.

op is looking @ second hand market here not brand new.

second hand he will be able to get speakers that were up to £1K when new.

monitor audio range makes more sense imo. if he can get silver's then great however bronze especially the one with more drivers will beat the 3050's.

Most, if not all speakers up to £1k new are not as good as 3050's. I used to have MA bronze and my mate has 3050's, I preferred the sound of his, they really are that good.

Just because you have MA there are plenty of other makes out there. Not everyone likes the MA sound.
As for second hand, well I paid 6.2x less than the full retail price of my standmount speakers.
