Hi
A friend wants a new PC and asked me for a spec with a budget of £500.
He uses it for movies, games, web browsing and web developing.

He doesn't need monitor, mouse, keyboard or OS.

Here is what I have:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £139.99
1 x Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £68.32
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) £66.66
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus' Power Supply (CMPSU-600CXUKV2) £49.99
1 x Asus ATI Radeon HD 6670 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £49.99
1 x Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £35.82
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £24.99
1 x Samsung SH-S222AL/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.82
Total : £556.90 (includes shipping : £12.50).

It's over the budget but he may be ok with that. Didn't realised that HDD's went up a lot.
Let me know if there's anything wrong and if it can be improved please.

Thanks
Anthony

The HDD is still quick and 320GB is still a decent amount of space.

The GA-Z68XP-UD3P has

• A better quality PCB with 2oz of copper to reduce emi
• More power phases for the CPU/RAM power circuitry, this means you can overclock further.
• Better quality capacitors/chokes and other parts.
• The audio chip is better.
• An extra SATAII port (4 vs 3)
• Firewire port
• More USB2.0 rear ports and a USB3.0 front panel connector.

It also supports Crossfire and SLI at an equal 8X/8X or 16X for a single GFX card.

The lesser board only supports Crossfire and thats at 16X/4X as it doesn't have any PCi-E switches that redirect the 8 lanes to the second GPU slot, the second PCI-E 16X slot is always 4X bandwidth.

Understand that just because the slot is a physical 16X in length, it doesn't mean its wired up as such.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I keep being advised to get a motherboard £110+ by my friends. Dunno why though.

Didn't expect replies this late but thanks.

Will have to discuss with him about the price and whether he needs the 500GB or 320GB.
He might be able to use his current one to save money for other parts.

Is this motherboard able to have SLI as all it says is that it has support for Crossfire?
