£500 but what card(s)

I say 7900GTX , mainly cuz its the BEST allrounder, and coupled with another is better IN SLI mode than the XTX is in crossfire. Think thats it. Make your own minds up.

To the original poster, if i was you mate I would buy a X1900XTX and then you would still have enough for a sound card, more than half of the reviews I have read say its just slightly a better card than the 7900GTX plus it should be a little cheaper also.

the x1900xtx are around the 370 mark at ocuk

the 7900gtx can be had for around 370 here at ocuk

I'm sorrry but the x1900xtx was a good buy when the prices were slashed and they were on this week only.

But i think some people have forgotten now that they cost the same to a 7900GTX

The cheapest gtx is £381.82 and unsuprisingly its on preorder only seeing as nvidia seem to be having supply issues. Second cheapest is £399.44 which again is not in stock. Dunno about you but i think that possibly people are gonna be more inclined to go for the cards that are in stock instead of being stuck with an arrival date thats nothing more than a question mark.

lol

Some 7900gtx's are due in monday I have been told.

The cheapest x1900xtx is £365

I think i'll save myself £15 and get a x1900XTX lol

Don't think so.

And as the OP is looking to get a new card on the 24th April when he has the funds the arguement of lack of stock for the 7900GTX doesn't hold any water lol ;)

At stock, the ATI cards are too noisy , more so in crossfire, and coupled with pupping out more heat, the Nvidia solution (sli or not) is better being quieter, and cooler. The performance is one reason, the other for me is so i can hear myself think. Im neither biased one way or another on any make of card. I prefer the nvidia solution based on information given , and on actually seeing both in action.

You either go with older but "tried and tested" technology with the 7900 series, or you go with the raw and slightly untamed ATi offering. From an architechture standpoint the ATi technology is ahead, by some way, and it will probably show in newer games later in the year, when more and more shaders are being used in games..
It is definately also worth considering the 7900gt because it has great overclocking potential and offers an upgrade path through SLi that will be cheaper, but still fast, in the long term leadup to Vista.

Given that ATi offer AA with HDR and do offer slightly better looking textures they may be the right choice. The cards are not that noisey as long as they are in a system with good airflow.

Don't call me biased or a Fanboy... I just bought a 7900gt (which came with a capacitor knocked off) and will be upgrading to SLi as soon as I need... ;))

Come on this is Overclockers.co.uk, sometimes I think people forget that :p the most important thing in any pc part is how fast does it run and whats the performance like, its not like ATI's cards have deltas strapped to them.
