Hey guys,

Today is day my g/f ordering a new phone, looking at the sgs2 and most plans have 250-500 data a month. When i first got android phone on tmob i was told they used loads of data just keeping self up to date and that was why you automatically got webnwalk plus with android phones.

So is 500meg enough data? she only really uses facebook/twitter on her phone tho am sure she might use it a 'little' more when has sgs2 instead of her little genio one.

I just dont want her getting smashed by some massive data bill a month?

Cheers

As long as she's sensible that'll be enough. Keep streaming video and downloading (large) apps to wifi jobs and she should be fine.

I have 500mb. It's more than enough for everything, unless she's going to use loads of video streaming like youtube.

If it's just facebook and twitter, 250mb will be enough.

Don't forget heavy internet radio streaming, that soon gets through the data and some people use it often.

It's ok for low usage but for moderate or frequent usage I'd say it's not enough. She would often be worried about using it which lessens her enjoyment.

Its a fair amount. I dont use much more than that each month on moderwte usage. Note, I use wifi at home and work...

i have 500mb a month and its more than enough....i have a logger on it so i can see how much i`ve used and to save getting stung for going over.
search for 3g watchdog in the market

Hehe, I've used (according to the usage monitor) 1.32gb... since the 20th of Jan :D God bless all you can eat data on Three!

I do watch a fair few youtube vids, and use spotify for an hour or 2 per day, and do a lot of web browsing though (the joys of an hour commute to work on the bus )

I found that not allowing the Google News & Weather app to update in the background cut my data usage in half!

I'm on GG and typically go through 300-400mb per month, not too much excessive use I don't really stream much and when at home usually on wifi.

I'd say 500mb is enough for basic things like emails and such.

It totally depends on what kind of user you are. For occasional use and checking emails, you won't go over 200mb a month. For streaming and watching music/videos you will probably break 500mb.

I would say 500 mb is not enough. If shes like most girls she will be on Facebook all day.

Buy the phone cash and get a giffgaff sin card

im on it and its great. 10 quid a month 250 mins to anyone unlimited text and web. Nothing to worry about.

I use Facebook and Internet but very little streaming, 250mb is my average usage. However, I have wifi at work, home and most of my mates houses when im round there.

I've used 750MB so far this month :S... thats what you get for streaming from iplayer on the full desktop version of the site tho lol.

I usually use about 20-30MB a month for general internet browsing and <100Mb a month from spotify... I usually try to keep big app downloads, etc. to when I'm on wifi. Radio streaming can quickly eat bandwidth tho - listening to even a low bandwidth stream for 3 hours a day will get through over a gig in a month.

Taking video/music and bigger apps out of the picture and its rare even with fairly heavy use to exceed 200MB a month - and app purchases like GTA3 are usually one off that you can do on wifi.

Personally I wouldn't think that it'd be enough... I've got 3GB a month data (1GB on the tariff and an extra 2GB because they made a mistake on my contract so I got that as a good will gesture)

I've only once come near covering my first 1GB (never gone over) but I'm regularly over 500MB...

Take a look on 3, most of their deals have 1GB net allowance and the S2 on there is only 30 a month

I've 500mb and it's fine for me, im on facebook a lot. Connect it to your own WIFI and I doubt you'd get using anywhere near 500.

I know for a fact o2 don't charge if you ever did go over the limit, they just slow you down.

I'm on a 500mb Voda tariff - Facebook, Twitter, 4 Email Addresses (Google, Yahoo, Virgin and Hotmail) Plus 2 more on Manual, Google Calendar (etc) and Snowstorm (Weather) plus basic Web Browsing most days and I'm usually on 300-350mb by the end of the month!..

Everything else is done when on Wi-Fi.

I did, only once, accidentally, at the start of the month, when installing NavFree, download 350Mb over 3G in one go (the UK/Ireland Maps), and spent the rest of the month bricking myself. I was on 496Mb when the new Month started!!..

This may have changed...I was taking a look and their terms state you move to the cap of £1 per day once you go over your usage - although even then if you use it lots they start charging per mb and the costs were fairly high. Always best to up the tarriff than let that happen.

Im sat at 431.12MB since the 26th of last month and i havent streamed anything to the best of my knowledge.

I downloaded 5 or 6 apps one being almost 20Mb and the rest is from browsing etc.

I have also used mapmyride twice in that time too.

The wife has a vodafone 500Mb account and is quite regularly near that limit from facebooking and web browsing each month.
