Hello,

I currently game on an old outdated laptop, and plan to purchase a gaming PC to play games such as Minecraft at high fps as well as Arma II/III. I have around a £500-£600 budget for a new PC. I have never built a PC before so would appreciate advice and possible links to videos or sources to help me build it. This PC would need to include windows 7, a 20-24 inch monitor as well as the desktop.

Thanks, however is there anything you could possibly downgrade so it fits in the 500-600 budget? Thanks once again! It needs to include windows 7 and a monitor in the budget too :(

Sorry, missed the OS & Monitor.

How are you with grade B parts?

I cannot get an OS in, but you can get a 3 month trial of Windows 8. This should allow you time to save for the OS and get later on.

I have heard a lot of bad reports about windows 8, is it really that bad? My primary use for the PC is gaming, and can we stick to the budget please :( £500-600

The reviews for Windows 8 is mixed and has been down to personal preference. With a budget like that, you are going to find fitting in all components a struggle. I would recommend a trial version to give you some leniency.

with monitor and OS thats effectively a budget of just over £400 for a gaming PC,

Under Budget with 7770

yea, that's quite true. depending on when OP needs to buy, kaveri may provide a nice performance boost
ofc, with that budget, going 2nd hand would be a pretty good idea too

As I said I have no clue how to make a PC, so I am very ware and curious to building a new PC. I am aware you get a lot more bang for your buck, however are they reliable, and what would I do if it were to break or stop working for any reason? I dont want to invest £600 in a gaming build which has liability to break :( And what build should I choose, there is a few that have been posted which I greatly appreciate but which should I choose :S

The FX41 isn't exactly a great CPU, and will suck for Arma which requires IPC.

As much as I don't like recommending i3's, pretty much no matter what AMD CPU you use at stock (Except the FX95's with their turbo's), an i3 in Arma II will probably be better.

But I don't expect you to only play Arma II, so the i3 isn't a serious recommendation.

depending on where you live, im quite sure some forumers could offer some help with building ur pc

depends on the parts you wanna buy 2nd hand. and you're usually SOL if the parts break if you buy 2nd hand.
if i was on your budget,
stuff i'd buy new = power supply, hard drive, operating system
stuff i'd probably buy new = case
stuff i'd consider buying 2nd hand = motherboard, optical drive, graphics card, monitor
stuff i'd definitely buy 2nd hand = processor, ram, cpu cooler

Depending how soon you need your new build, I'd take more time and allow yourself more money on higher quality parts and build up the rig over time.

Instead of creating a new thread, maybe I could ask as well.

I too am looking for upgrade possibility to be able to completely MAX out games mainly Arma 2&3, BF4 and may re-install FSX. I'd like to be able to get decent frames so I can use Fraps.
Arma 2 for instance on my clan multiplayer server with 60+ players frames are between 24-40 (Not recording) depending on how much it has to render.

I have been looking at the following

Also considered adding another 240GB SSD

I thought I would be able to stick to around £400 on my original build but the monitor certainly hits it up a bit. I managed to luckily get a 22inch IPS monitor for £90. I have also put more money into the GPU and CPU to make sure I get high settings on all the games I want
