Hi folks,

Looking to upgrade an old system to play BG3 at 1080p. It's currently running the following and was an old system of mine
3770k OCd to 4.4GHz
Asus Gene V motherboard
16GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SSD
AX750w Gold PSU
Powercolour 5700XT

I think I have squeezed/taken the LGA1155 platform as far as I can so that will probably be the one replaced. My question is can I squeeze a platform upgrade + GPU to play 1080p?
Or would I be better overhauling the platform first and then GPU upgrade later down the line?

I am happy to go second-hand as I have access to the MM. Something like a Intel 12th gen/AM4 bundle + 3070 might be doable.

If you could get a used 5600 or 12400F (or similar), that would allow more room for the graphics.

You could look for a 6700/6750 XT. I'm not keen on getting 8GB anymore, even for 1080p.

For 1080p your budget will stretch further than you think, but yes it probably requires going second hand or finding a good deal elsewhere

Thanks chaps. 2nd hand seems to be the way to go. With it being 1080p I thought the gpu could last a bit longer but seems like a £300 2nd hand gpu would be a big upgrade paired with a 5600/12400f bundle.

You should be able to nail a second hand 6700 series well within budget, if you're really lucky you might nab a 7800XT or 4070 even at around the £300-350 mark. I'd try to avoid 8gb cards if at all possible unless it's a fantastic deal, even at 1080P it's not going to offer longevity, and you clearly like to keep your kit for a good while.

As I'm sure you know most OCUK MM types will help with warranty issues also if there's any left, you'll get a lot more for your money so it really is the best avenue in your situation.
