Hey all. A few friends have had upgrades recently and I think I've now got the bug. My current build is largely around 6/7 years old having been purchased back in 2011. I have made some upgrades since then:
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DualQuad Channel Kit
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Samsung SH-B123LRSBP 12x BluRay ROM DVDRW DL & RAM Lightscribe SATA-II Optical Drive
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA 6Gbs 64MB Cache - OEM
Ontop of this I'm also running with:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 D5X WindForce 3x 8192MB GDDR5X PCI-Express Graphics Card
OCZ CoreXtreme 500w '80 Plus' Power Supply
NZXT Phantom 410 Enthusiast Midi Tower Case - Black
My main concern atm is that the GPU is being limited by the CPU and RAM, especially as one of the sticks failed so I'm currently running with 12GB. I also have two SSDs in there but as I didn't get them from OcUK I don't have the exact specs.
The system itself still holds up pretty well but it's starting to struggle (especially in VR). Given I've been quite spoiled by the i5 in terms of how long it's both lasted and held up, I'd ideally like to get the current equivalent. To that end I've been looking at the i5-8600K as it seems pretty decent and doesn't cost the earth.
My budget is ~£500 though I could potentially stretch to more for the right kit. I've contemplated an upgrade bundle but I'm not sure if I could make my money go further by picking up the individual components themselves.
Which parts (if any) do you guys and girls feel would be worth replacing atm?
Thanks!
