About to order 2 of the WD 500Gb AAKS drives. Is there anything else for arroud the same price range worth getting over these…how's the Seagates in comparison speed wise?

I'd go with the WD, I've got one, unless you want the 5 yr warrantee of Seagate. Reviews I've read say Seagate's are noisier & hotter.

Thanks...ordered two 500Gb AAKS's

I've done exactly that. I'm hoping a city link van pops round soon..

edit - woohoo speak of the devil..

edit 2 - it does seem to take a while formatting though..

Considering the same, was going to get the 250gb ones but theres not much difference in price between the 500 and the 250 so think i will have to go for the 500's

Use WD Data lifeguard tools - works much faster than Windows. Can set up as boot drive & partition as well v quickly.

I assume you can download that from somewhere ?, burn it to a CD and use it on a brand new install (i.e. new HD's) prior to installing XP?

I have 2 x 320GB Seagate Barracudas 7200.10s & 2 x 500GB WD AAKSs (SATA)...both series are very good HDDs, but I find the AAKS series are quieter and quicker...the 7200.10 series have a 5 year warranty.

If I was going to buy a new HDD at this present time (up to 500GB) it would be one from the WD AAKS range of HDDs.... ;)
