in windows xp all you need to do is go Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Computer Management and click on disk management. you should see your drive. you can then right click on it and select format

Hi, i have just built my new pc with a 500gb HD, installed XP but its only showing as a 127gb HD. Any ideas?:(
You need SP1 (preferably SP2) slipstreamed onto the install CD to enable 48bit LBA support for large disks.

There are various options going forward. A second partition using the remaining space; extending the existing partition with Partition Magic or Gparted; or reinstall with an SP2 CD.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I tried slipstreaming sp2 but it wouldnt go with the Dell version of XP i have.

I now have a XP disk with SP2 that i have borrowed, hopefully this will work.
