500gb seagate7200.10 problems

Right guys i have a 2 wek old 500gb ( As title ) and since last night when i was trying to copy data from and to the drive whilst watching a movie and downloading ( all the same drive in question ) the drive now randomly dissapears in windows, after a restart its fine but i cannot format the drive as i have no were to put all that data . ( drive is full ) any suggestions

1) would you rma it

2) Format it and start again

Go get a copy of the SeaTools diagnostic program from the Seagate site and run that against the disk and see what it says, if it returns an error then it's RMA time.

if the data is really important to you, i would advise that you back it up very quickly, even if you have to buy a new hard drive to put all your data on.

spent all afternoon backing up my data, i then downloaded seatools and it fails on the long dst test, i also ran hd tune and that found 190mb of bad sectors on the disk. Thanks for your help guys. Will be rma ing it tommorrow.
