5090 or wait for 5080ti (if it will exist)

Hi all,

I currently have a 3080 which is starting to struggle, ive noticed gpu prices are slowly starting to balance out a bit so was wondering. For video editing, unity and 1440p gaming. I was wondering if it would be worth picking up a 5090 or maybe waiting a few more months and getting a 5080ti (if they are even going to exist). Obviously the 5090 is a big investment but I know it would get some use but at the same time I think the speculated 5080ti specs floating around might be more suitable in a price to specs value.

What would you guys do in this situation wait a few more months to see what happens or is it unlikely to change anything?

Thanks

At this point I'd just wait for the newer 5080 model i.e. ti or super as it's inevitable and should come in around the same price point.

Unless your 3080 breaks any time soon then I would just wait. A 24GB 5080FE would probably arrive somewhere in the 1.2k price range.

I would be inclined to wait as well. I even bought a 5090 recently and then returned it because 2k on a GPU? What was I thinking…

Of course NVIDIA are not silly, they have the 5080 16GB because they know anyone who had a valid use case for more vram ie video editing would have no choice but to spend DOUBLE for their only part with more memory.

Hopefully the 5080 Super / Ti will have 24GB the amount it always should have had.

The bonus of waiting is, the longer you wait, the more the current model you had your eye on will drop in value, I know I know Nvidia pricing, but still. I have a 4070, and it's worth a fair bit less than it was when I bought it - I know it's not current generation, but it still went down a fair bit after release :) so stuff does still come down in price, Nvidia or not :p :D

At the moment, we're expecting a super series, but no words yet on a Ti. Super series is expected to increase VRAM by about 50% and raw performance by about 5-15% (at the expense of some added power draw). It's expected to launch late this year or early next year. What the prices are gonna be - I don't know, unfortunately. Word on the street is nVidia is keeping mostly around the same price brackets as the base 5000 series to remain competitive with AMD. All of this is based on rumors, though, so anything I said here could turn out to be false.

By the time the Suoers are released the leaks/rumours will be starting on the 6000 series. I would get a 5090 now or wait for the 6000 series if you can.

Also with Nvidia I think it's more like wait a lot to save a bit. Or even lose in the case of the 4090's which gained value.

Reminder of what the rumoured 5080 Super, 5070 Super and 5070 Ti Super are looking like.

Nothing is getting close to or beating a 5090 until a 5090Ti / Super / Ti Super arrives... or you can just preorder an RTX Pro 6000 96GB to arrive at the end of this month.

at your res I would just get a 5080 enjoy it now and see if you really need that extra memory when supers are out. pretty sure you wont loose to much if you sell and slight grade

I'm in a similar position. 10GB 3080 is struggling at 1440p ultrawide especially hitting the VRAM limits in MSFS 2024. Not gaming enough right not to justify a 5090 and dropping £1K for 16GB seems silly. Waiting for rumoured Ti/Super.

Sell the 3080 and put the cash towards a 5070ti which can be had for £650 or so. Use that until we get the big performance jump with the 6000 series :D

It's what I did just with the 4070ti super instead of the 5070ti.

It's half way through 2025, we've five and a half months to go until 2026. The Super variants are due out by end of year, which would just about be in line with various "refreshes" -- personally I'd wait it out, if you go 2-3 generations between upgrades there's no point in jumping the gun now when you've still got a very capable GPU.

Wait to get a 5080 Super with 24GB memory, VRAM is going to be very important going forward and the 5080 is hamstrung with 16GB.

Highly doubt a 5090 Ti/Super will happen, There's no need to as there's zero competition passed a 5070 Ti, They can just call it an RTX6000 and sell it for £8K.

I would like to see Titan branding return though.
