50cc bike

the only thing i may do is put some rim tape on there and and sports exhaust. thats it really wait till i can get a 125 and a car.

they are very slow until you put a 70cc kit on it, bigger carb, sports exhaust ect.. my mates RS50 (RS70 now) does a true 70 mph+ i followed him in the car and my speedo was showing 80

Unless he has spent a ridiculous amount on it or this was not on the flat, I somehow don't believe you.

You'd be surprised actually. An RS50 with a 70cc kit and the right carb, pipe and jetting can make 10 to 12bhp which with the right gearing is good for 70mph.

The bottom ends tend to lunch themselves after a while though.

And the cost of the 70cc kit, rejetting, new pipe, rollers, change of gearing?

I still doubt that it is going to add an extra 20mph+.

A few hundered quid. It's not that expensive as theres a big market for 70 and 90cc kits.
2 stroke engines are simple to modify too as there's no valves or cam chain to have to worry about.

And of course it can add an extra 20mph. They make 6 - 7bhp when completely derestricted at 50cc so it's not unlikely that an extra 20cc will give another 4 - 5bhp on top.

However, my experience with 50cc bikes ended 16 years ago. These days I just view them as dangerously slow.

Anyway, I think the whole excercise is pointless as if plod sees someone on a 50cc doing 60mph it's pretty obvious that isn't been breathed on which is a big no no on a restricted license at 16.

Then again, when was the last time you saw plod actually doing anything other than checking road tax or watching for people speeding?

Ignore all the people saying dont get one. I had a Piaggio NRG 50 for 2 months and got bored stiff, sold it and got an RS50. Was a great decision, slightly more oomph (de-restricted obv) than the scooter and soooo much more fun. Also if you get one thats a good few years old now you'll hardly lose a penny over the space of a year.

Few words of warning though, if its around 8k miles+ make sure it's had a recent re-build.
If you're going to put on a sports exhaust please look into changing the jetting aswell as it's common that it can mess the mixture up and cause the bike to seize.
Finally make sure you use the good 2 stroke oil and warm it up :)

You'd be better off with a 125 than a 50 with all the 70cc kit, carb and tuned exhaust. A 125 will do all the above smoothly and silently and use less fuel.

I had a derestricted NRG as well, not a bad bike but the kids couldn't keep their hands off and inevitably it got nicked. Went on to a 50cc ET2 Vespa which had exactly the same performance as the NRG but rode much smoother and the kids ignored it. Upgraded to a 125cc ET4 Vespa which made the longer journeys a bit easier but it was a sod of a bike to service and it could be unreliable at times. I gather the new 4-stroke 50's aren't as powerful as the 2-stroke ones and it's worth checking this because the last thing you want is a slow bike that's even slower than it has to be.

Yeah if your old enough for a 125 go for that obviously.

No matter what happens do not get a 50 cc 4 stroke. Is the slowest slow thing EVER. Also it's not like a 2 stroke where you can easily de-restrict it and get another 10 mph, you'd be stuck with 30 for life!

His profile says he's only 16, any at 16 you've managed to save that much dough? Fair play, I struggled to save a few hundred for a car when I was in college.
But you can't get a 125 at 16, so no cigar there.

Tbh, if you've got not long til you're 17, well worth getting a 125 now and waiting til you're 17 to use it.

I said above, My profile is set wrong, I am 15 till august the 6th, I saved the money because it's always something I have wanted to get! I did buy a honda CR250, Which is great fun but for the money it costs! To much to have both.

I had an RS50 when i was 16, actually still do have it and need to sell it! :p

I loved every second of it and I'm glad i bought a proper motorbike over a twist and go anyday. It was way faster than anybody elses 50 aswell, mine was faster stock than a friend of mines who had put an exhaust on it and a K&N.

I was raring to get a RS125 when i was 17 but went the car route instead, still really want an RS125 or even a RS250.
