£/month?

too much for what it is... and STM will be coming to virgin 50mb.

I can download a 4gb distro in 30mins on my 20mb connection ... so at 50mb i can less than half the time, but when downloading overnight what's the point really?!

The cost of the 50mb is an extra £10 or £15 depending on what packages you have with virgin, ontop of the XL 20mb package which is £35.

So your looking at £45 or £50 per month for 50mb + the £80 install fee

Everyone seems to list the bad points straight away, people seem so snappy. You have no idea how jealous you guys look.

I'd say congrats, enjoy it while it lasts. ^_^

I know I'd love 50mb.

If you get virgin media phone with the 50mb, you can get the broadband for £35 and the virgin phone line rental is £11 a month. So yeh £46 a month.

I'm paying £36 a month (phone + 5mb bb)for a **** poor connection from a bt exchange i live miles away from.

Might look over expensive to people who get 24mb with O2 or whoever, but for the majority who can't get speeds like that, i'd say this was a cracking deal.

I'm becoming more and more interested in this 50mb service.

Same here mate. Wish i could get speeds like that, and i am MAD jealous.

Not really, been on Virgin 20Mb and they couldn't even provide that, I could sign up for 50Mb now but its pointless with STM/DPI looming. Defeats the point of such high speed connections.

Its quite funny that my BE 9Mb line (capped at 8Mb due to BE Value) works faster than my 20Mb connection did, at all times but 4.30 in the morning when I might get 20Mb.

I recently revamped our contract with Virgin. We were paying £50 for 10meg broadband with TV and phone, now paying £40 for a better bundle with 20meg broadband.

I'm glad to say I get my full 20meg all the time, except when I'm being traffic shaped :/

What are your gaming pings like?

They can't please everyone, neither can they offer great service across their entire network.

I just know that I couldn't be happier with my VM 20mb connection. constant < 20 pings, constant 2.4mb/s download speeds.

I've had < 20 pings and my max download speed ever since I've been with them. that's about 6 years.

Can't fault them at all.

Good times! Have always had great speeds on my 20Mb connection, can't fault VM. Have always provided great service in Leics, at uni in Notts and now here in Herts.

On a separate note, people complaining about 'looming' STM etc. is there an official word on this or is it just hearsay?

50Mb downstream? meh

hows this for fast?

423111161.png

thats from my uni flat at 12am ish

can hit 100MB/s both up and down stream at 4am :D
and sits at about 70MB/s downstream throughout the day

and i pay £10 a month :D:cool::D

In realworld terms downloads speeds tend to be limited by the hosting server and interconnects rather than my connection, most stuff i d/l comes through at about 9-10MB/s.

e.g downloaded the MS visual studio suite iso ~3.3GB that took just shy of 6 min!
The HAWX demo took me just over 2 mins (~1.3GB iirc)

There was an offical word on this saying that STM will come in on 50mb when the rollout is complete.

Look at the cable forums theres a post and quote on there about it.
It's going to be a while till the rollout is complete so make the most of it now, get those distro's down :)
