If you where in the market for a 50"+ OLED would you choose a specific brand or just look for the cheapest between LG, PANASONIC, PHILLIPS, SONY once calibrated, would the difference between processing on each really be a make a break difference in visual quality?

The guy who posted the comments below with a link to the unbiased shootout (superhans0113) wrote this:

"this is the only unbiased video i have been able to find, https://youtu.be/U2dkaYVAuLE

they say the worst is LG,

then the 2nd worst is Sony,

then the 2nd best is Panasonic,

then the best is Phillips,

bearing in mind they all use the same LG oled panel,

and part owned by the chinese, Philips is able to out perform in every way over the LG in the first year of manufacture,

says all it needs to about how LG just don't care about their customers,

i had to calibrate my tv as out of the box it is set to eco mode,

there are you tubers who calibrate tv's for a living and give a step by step guide on how to tune the red green and blue to be as close to a natural image as possible,

obviously they won't do this in the shop to show the tv's potential,

but mine is night and day different from out of the box,

i thought these image processing problems couldn't be sorted by LG,

they have had 7 years to do it, so it must not be possible,

unfortunately all the other 3 manufacturers tv's are better than the LG oled,

everyone who sell oled tv's won't tell the truth,

ask a customer sales assistant about stutter, screen tearing, soap opera effect, poor standard terrestrial tv rendering,

so the LG is perfect so long as there is nothing faster than walking pace action,

definitely no sport or action films, no turning heads fast, or driving past trees, or large collections of animals in one group, or you want to watch f1 on channel 4, oh you can't watch it live like on android, you have to wait to the next day by them you have found out who won, as liberty media tell you on you tube,

poor show LG,

if you don't like the tv take it back,

LG have got away with it for to long, 7 years now and none of the problems have been fixed,

They take us for mugs but what are we supposed to do when we are fed lies from every source of supposedly unbiased reviews,

these tv's are supposed to be the pinnacle of what is possible and cost a small fortune,

they need serious work and LG need to lose a lot of sales to start to fix their tv's,

Rant over,

but if it makes 1 person think, this guy owns a LG 55" C6 really maybe those people are the ones to trust not sellers or you tubers,

all i am saying don't LG oled."

There are so many comparisons online with different verdicts when comparing the LG B7 to the rest of them.

I'm not sure what that wall of text is about but I vastly prefer my LG B7 to any other TV I've owned including the Android Sony LED that I bought in 2016, I just didn't get on with the Andriod OS whereas the LG system seems much simpler, and it has all the apps I need (inc Plex). The picture is pretty good, too....

Didn't see the point paying more for the Panasonic plus I prefer the look of the LGs anyway.

Who would do this to someone in a retail job? He’s unhinged.

The processing definitely plays a big part in the final result.

This isn't the first time that Philips came out on top in a shoot-out, but I do think it's a first where all the sets use the same glass.

Philips hold a blind test and come out on top, funny that... I'm not saying there isn't any truth to it, I just can never hold something true if the winner is held by the manufacture running the test.

I have no complaints with my LG B7, in fact it is that good that I am sure I will hold on to it for a long time. I kept my old Syncmaster CRT and Panasonic plasma for as long as I could until they either broke or just had to go and I am sure I will do the same with this. The fact that I also got it for £1300 was a steal in my eyes. A friend has the OLED Sony and I can probably admit deep down it is very marginally sharper, but definitely not for the £1000 extra it costs.

Yeah I was a bit sceptical about the host of the event winning, but it seemed a fair test too.

I guess that's what it comes down too Simmz, if there all just as good then it's all down to price.

Lol I know right? They won't have a clue about any of that stuff, and they don't realistically need to have a clue about it either! :p

Its like going into the purple shirts PC store and asking a customer sales assistant about the CAS latency of the memory controller in an HP laptop and expecting them to know all about it...

With respect, some of it they should.

Maybe not so much about stutter and screen tearing, but definitely soap opera effect. That's a symptom of over processing in the motion settings and it can be induced quite easily with a video source.

Whether a retail assistant would see what SD terrestrial looks like though depends on the store and whether they're set up to display it. Even if it's not available as a source in-store, the sales assistants may well have had comments back from purchasers that their TV looks poor on SD.

A lot depends on the retailer and the diligence of the staff. Some take a genuine interest in what they sell. Others are just there to occupy the time until something better comes along.

Can't fault my LG OLED, the UI on it for me is the best laid out for ease of access for my parents to use etc.

We have an LG55B6V and we love it. Everyone who has seen it has commented on how good the picture is too.

When we move into our new house in the next few weeks, we'll be replacing it with another, larger LG OLED.

For gaming I would say LG, for films etc. (and gaming) I would say Sony A1, the main advantage of the Sony A1 is better motion, which is my main issue with LG OLED TV's. The Sony is overpriced though so value for money would be LG. The Panasonic looks good but it has a problem with stuttering.

Just bought a LG C7.
Now i have a Marantz 1608 amp which supports 4k and all the latest jazz.

My question is do i need to update my HDMI cables so that they are 2.1 spec or are the ones I have still okay?
I've had my HDMI cables a few yrs now so no idea what spec they are.

Cheers

You probably have 1.4 hdmi cables which support up to about 10gb bandwidth. I think the highest res in 4K uses about 12-14gb so you would need at least a 2.0 cable which does 18gb. 2.1 is the latest one which supports 48gb and can be used in 8k. Should be able to grab them for about £5. No need to buy a fancy one, all do the same job.

I'm a stickler for motion issues and have no problem with LG oled 7 series. This is coming from high end plasma and led panels.

when do we think we will start seeing OLED drop below £1000 (not just in sales)
still rocking my 46" Panny Plasma at the min.
Really want to go up to 65" but can't justify £2k+ so probably limited to 55" for now.

Hard to say really. Unfortunately oled panels are not cheap to make which won’t help the price drop. Also need to see who wins the war. Samsung are definitely going to stick with Qled it seems, so 2018 will be an interesting year to see what pans out. Wouldn’t be surprised however if even the cheapest panel at the moment LG B7 still doesn’t go under £1k come the end of 2018.

If your current HDMI cables are high speed then you should be ok you don't need the latest 2.1 spec cables to achieve 4k /HDR/DV i have some old HDMI 1.3 spec cables and they work fine in 4K/HDR/DV with my LG C6 OLED and Denon X2300w av amp.

Amazon basic cables are good and only cost a fiver if you do need to buy some.
