550d v.s. 60d?

If your dad has a good collection of Nikon lenses and you have experience using a Nikon body, I see little point in going to a Canon setup - unless you have loads of close Canon friends.

He has an 18-55 Kit lens and a 70-300 f/4-5.6 Tamron
From the Canon he has a Sigma 28-70 and a Sigma 70-200

With the Canon I can take the two Sigma lenses when I leave home, I doubt I'll be able to take the two Nikon lenses with me, which means I'll end up needing to buy at least one of those lenses again (or a lens which covers them) when I leave, as well as another body.
