5600x won't boost (stuck at 3.6 ghz?)

As title - it doesn't even seem to be at 3.7ghz, it's just at 3.6 Ghz and won't boost when the CPU is under load. I've tried with Prime95 and OCCT to load the CPU to see if boost activates, but nothing. I've loaded the default settings in the BIOS, as well as trying with PBO enabled or disabled. XMP profile is activated and RAM is running at the correct settings.

When I enabled Game Boost (PBO) in the BIOS, it changes the CPU speed to 4200 Mhz and vcore around 1.332, but when I get into Windows, all programs I use to check speeds show it as 3.6 Ghz.

Can't seem to launch Ryzen Master unfortunately, it says "unable to initialize, hence aborting"

Its almost definitely due to power. My X570 Tomahawk was limiting my 5600x to 76W when its a 88W part, and that is at default settings. As a consequence it wouldn't boost over 4050 during CR23.

Go in to the BIOS, and look for the PBO settings - apply manual settings of 88 PPT - 60 TDC and 90 EDC, which is what the 'stock' settings should be for a 5600x, and see what difference that makes.

Ryzen master is handy because it will show you all of the above figures in real time...might be worth a reinstall of windows. Its so quick these days to do anyway

Thanks! I'll give those settings a try. I read as well that resetting the CMOS may help with Ryzen Master so I'll try that first, if that doesn't work (and the manual settings don't) I'll try a Windows reinstall and go from there Thanks again for the help

Game boost and PBO are 2 different things, Game boost in the MSI bios is a manual overclock and this will by default disable PBO, dont use Game Boost in the MSI bios, and if you have the manual knob on your board for it too, set it to zero.

Hmm, Game Boost seems to be turning PBO on/off in my BIOS. When I turn "Game Boost" on and then save and exit, it tells me that PBO has been set to enabled. If I turn it off again, it says PBO is disabled. See screenshot below which is when I turned it on and went to save.

No difference unfortunately with those settings manually entered still rock solid at 3.6 Ghz no matter what I use to load the CPU. Think I'll flash the BIOS next, just in case this revision is a bit potato.

Have a look in bios for a setting called core performance boost and make sure it's not set to disabled.

Also check for a setting called Eco mode and make sure that isn't set to 45w either.

There will be 2 places in the bios for CPU settings, in the overclocking menu under CPU configuration and also in advanced > AMD overclocking so check both.

Is it possible and old installation of Ryzen Master (as I used to have it a while ago) has left some files over that's messing around with it? Anyway, going to do a format tomorrow and see if a new Windows install sorts it.

I did a reinstall of windows last night to try and assist with my 6800 crashing to desktop. It’s so quick these days, well worth a try, and then at least with ryzen master you can see what it’s doing.

Try running hwinfo and seeing what speeds are showing in there.

ive got the b550 Tomahawk and i think mine is limited to to 76. Any benefit in me applying these since im hitting about 4.4?

Well, it’s worth a go. At 76w it’s less than it’s supposed to be getting. But that’s impressive that it’s boosting on all cores at 4.4...!

Found the settings ok, got similar results to before boosting to about 4580 but temps up over 80

put it back to auto and runs at about 4380 but with the temps at 70 so i think its negligible

Formatted again, reinstalled Windows, and updated the BIOS to the newest non-beta revision and it seems to be boosting fine now! Thanks for the help folks.
