5700 XT Vs 1080ti. Upgrading from 980

Op is planning on paying more. That is the going rate and at that price what would beat it?

What the OP decides to spend on a new card doesn't matter. I am just saying that I would not pay £400 for a second hand 1080ti.

Buying a 5700Xt or 2070 Super you have

Similar performance (at the moment)
Better Warranty,
Peace of Mind,
New Features,
Better performance going Forward in new games,
Better Resale value.

I would only look at 1080Ti's that were selling for less than £350.

he had zero issues with his previous card. switched to AMD now constant.
Need to do a clean install of windows mate.

I move from Nvidia to AMD graphics cards all the time. No crashes or anything.

Recently moved from a GTX 970 to a Vega 56 and I have no issues with AMD drivers what so over and I love the UI :)

AMD has far superior drivers in all aspects including the tools to do things that Nvidia doesn't have at all. So spare us the sht.

Don't know how AMD drivers are now but back when I had my RX 480 (purchased on the day it was released) I had nothing but problems. Wattaman would crash every time (not just for me but for most people), when trying to display 4k60 over hdmi the whole PC would just shut down immediately. Yeah those problems were fixed in later releases but the bitter taste stayed.
On the other hand I never had problems with Nvidia drivers (apart from not being able to display 10bit colours over hdmi and only 8 and 12bit possible on Maxwell and Pascal cards).

I'd definately go for the used 1080 Ti. They've got no warrenty so it's less hassle. If it starts to artifact or fails completely, it only takes a second to throw it in the dustbin. For only £480 it's a no brainer.

That won't happen until next year. If I could find a 1080ti for £350 I would upgrade my 980ti. So still the best GPU used or not at that price. (£400)

Haha did make me chuckle. If I was to upgrade I would look for a 1080ti with a year's warranty at least and it would need to be £400 mark. £480 is 2070s territory (ISH) with full warranty

Only EVGA has transferable warranty though. And someone bought 1080Ti in 2017 has just 6 months left in it.

If the 1080Ti was £280 then we could argue that might be a good price, but when you can buy same speed card brand new pointless.

:D

Referring to the 5700XT/2070S brand new argument against £480 used GTX1080Ti :D

There's always the argument that of you just stretch to this, etc. The 1080ti at £400 is decent in comparison.

Not for everyone I know. But if it was the case you had no problems with it then it would be a good buy (at that price)

Glad sold mine £700 last year :D

my mate just bought an AMD card the 5700. he says it's just constant crashes and the drivers are a mess.

I just bought AMD cpu and wanted to try out their GPU's but you need to feed this back to suppliers. AMD need to up their software.

Zero issues with my ref 5700. Undervolted to 951mv from 1050mv and consumes rougly 135w. Almost same as my old GTX 1060 at twice the speed.

Still got my GTX1080Ti since it launched, great card and still performs well today. However, like the others have said, the 5700XT is the right choice to make.
