Hey, all. Newbie here, so go easy, please.

This is my 1st time pc build :) and I just finished it off on friday with a 5700 card. I installed the latest driver from the ATI site (was using onboard graphics before that, so no need to uninstall anything). Didnt have any games, so downloaded a Tropico 3 demo, which seemed to run ok, then crashed with some vertical black and grey lines. I put it down to problem with the demo. However, I got Mass Effect off Steam yesterday and get the same problem. I dont even get to shoot anything before it crashes

I've got a 600W OCZ PSU, so I dont think thats the problem - used a power calculator, didnt have the 5770, but I'm within my PSU capabilities if I spec a 4890 card.

I've just run Furmark for about 30 mins without a problem. It reported the temp at a steady 81C when loaded, however, GPU-Z said it was 48C

Any ideas? I was thinking of trying to get my card replaced today. Should I wait for an updated driver? Should I just get a different card?

Even if your previous card was an embedded one it may still have drivers, I doubt that is the issue though.

Try a different PCIe slot

Try different power cables to the card

Make sure it is seated firmly

Update your motherboard bios

Reset you motherboard cmos

And try different drivers, the 9.10s have been released recently and also you will find links to the beta 9.11s on this forum

Cheers for the help. I'll try as much of that as I can. Just tried the other PCIe plug from the power supply, which didnt help. I have a mATX board, so there isnt enough room for the card using the other slot. Will try the new drivers. I'm wondering if its a heat problem. It seemed to be working ok when I had the side of my case open. Only crashed when I put the case back together it back in its normal place. Maybe the fan on the HIS card isnt up to it.
