how much better is the 5850 compared to the 5770?
i bought a 5770 and get the feeling i shoulda gone for tother 1 it still chugs a bit on games with everything maxed out

He did that the wrong way around. His is lowest to the best, he means to say the 5850 is far and beyond the rest.

Although you could buy another 5770 and crossfire, you would get performance far better then a single 5850, for the same price.

He's got the arrows wrong way round.

5770 is decent card, but crippled by 128bit memory bus and so struggles at high res or lots of AA.

5850 would be a big improvement under such situations.

Not really the "wrong" way round. Who made you the arrow police? ;)

The 5750 then 4850 is faster etc. then 5770 then 4890 theeeeeeeeeeeeeen 5850 :)

your better off going single 5850 overclocking it to easily 5870 performance and beyond more games work better with single gpu then if you want get anthor in CF down the line.

2 5770s beat the 5870. But for the same price or abit less a 5850 can beat a 5870 overclocked. Your choice tbh. both can beat 5870.
If you get a 5850 there is always another PCIE slot you can use when you get the money again ;D
