5770 @ x8

Hi, bought my 5770 the other day and it's running at x8.

My motherboard is the Asus p5n-e sli 650i. It's the one with the removable circuit board which switches it between 1 lane @x16 and 2 @ x8. Now I've tried switching it to both sides and it still stays at x8 which it shouldn't. any ideas?

Is there an option in the mobo's BIOS to set the PCI lanes to the different configurations?

I don't think so, I assumed it was just a case of switching the circuit around to the 'single card bit'.

I've never seen that option in the bios before but never been looking for it, I'll go and have a check.

Just checked and no such options present.

Might be worth sending Asus support an email? For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that 8X provides enough bandwidth to keep your card running at full speed.

I'd say it will almost certainly suffer at 8x.

His motherboard only has PCI-E 1.0a lanes, so that would only be 4x by PCI-E 2.0 standards.

well I've fixed it, re-seated the chip about 50 times and eventually it's on x16. must be a dodgy bit of kit but it's not the first time I've seen someone mention it about the board.

Btw, I'm quite curious how much performance difference you notice, so feel free to post back with benchies or just your subjective experience.
