The 30" 2560*1600 screens owners are mainly the ones that will be looking at the 5870x2.

And those of us wanting to do 3 x 1920x1200 with Eyefinity

5850 for excellent price/performance.

5870 for extra performance at higher cost or 5870X2 in November if money no object. 'Argh, when I were a student, *grumble grumble*'

Yeah, triple monitor setups will be even more power-hungry than a 30" screen. Two 1920*1200 screens have approximately the same number of pixels as a single 30"-er at 2560. So it will more than justify a 5870x2. Well, when ATI enable eyefinity with crossfire that is!

Hopefully bezel management and SLI support will be out before the 5870x2, as well as a good supply of DP active adapters
