5800x 3d seems a liitle toasty

ok so latest things i have done trying to get temps down is as follows.
remove AIO and CPU block, clean and repasted and reinstall.
same issue.

i have however for a temp fix i have gone into power management and changed the maximum processor state to 99%
yes I'm losing some speed and functionality as its currently now at 3.30Ghz
with idle temps at around 40/50 and gaming around the 70/80 region.

how do i go about trying the -30 trick with curve optimiser.
If you have an Asus or MSI board you can probably do it in the BIOS. If not you can use the PBO2 Tuner tool:

with -30 all cores worst case running CB23 tops at around 82c I notice the clocks start to drop at around 79c , gaming is lower around 60-70c using a 360 aio

Also worth noting the hotspot on these is slightly lower off centre so some coolers have holes slightly lower on the bracket of the cooler to accommodate this and it adjusts the contact accordingly.
However yeah they do run hot and idle higher than other CPU's its the nature of the extra cache and architecture but the PBO2 Tuner -30 does work really well. I've been using it a few years now my 5800x3d was bought in the 4th batch of monthly releases so had it nearly from the beginning. I've got a game running at the moment my ambient temp is 26c and its at 50c CPU temp but games that push it more its around 65c. Cinebench R2 it maxes around 78c.

Please don't do this, you are severely throttling the CPU's performance for no good reason. Your temps are okay, but are you using the Windows Balanced power plan? Because you should be with this CPU. Do not use the High Performance power plan or any Ryzen power plans (as the latter are intended for Zen 2).

How long have you had your H100i? It could be that the AIO is degrading over time, but not to the point where it's a problem. Also, if you run a relaxed fan profile idle temperatures will be higher, particularly in a heatwave.

You could also install the latest chipset drivers from AMD's website if you haven't already done so (just install the chipset drivers not the other things like RAID and StoreMI which are not applicable): https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/x570

and make sure you are using a BIOS with at least AGESA 1.2.0.7 as that is required for the 5800X3D to perform and operate correctly. Which motherboard are you using?

What's your pump and fan speeds running at? are your fans on the radiator in full or push? I'd recommend using fans as exhaust. Remove the top filter, if you have one also

hi all, was curious to what idle temps should be roughly with my specs.

ryzen 7 5800x 3d
msi x470 gaming plus max
3600 ddr 4 corsair vengeance pro x4 8gig
h100i elite aio - top mounted
NVidia rtx 3070
thermal view 32 case
corsair x3 ml pro fans at front
corsair x1 ml pro fans at rear

sitting here typing this I'm currently at 58degrees. while gaming im near the 90 mark.
cooling temp at 36deg

never had this jump using the 3600 ryzen5.
so just checking to see if I'm good of things don't seem right.

Try undervolting the CPU, AMD boards typically overvolt and it's the first thing I do with them. I run my 5800X3D at -0.056v

-30 trick does nothing but increase temps for me. They run hot, the 5800 was a hot chip anyway, it's even less thermally efficient with the 3d cache stacked on top.

hi all just an update.
ok first of all thanx to everyone for all the help and advice.

anyway I think I'm getting there.

so using PBO currently at -15.
AIO temps is now around 32deg
CPU temp while idle at 40deg.
CPU while gaming 60/70 deg
ran OCCT to test and no fails so will go again and see what else i can get out it.

thanx all appreciate all the help.

You have similar setup to me, read my sig..

All i have done is set Kombo Strike 3 in BIOS and set a negative offset at -0.0500v (just the Kombo Strike 3 alone is enough though)

Mine idles at around 34c and highs of mid 60s in games, except for GTA V gets it around 68c.

My AIO pump is set to balanced with up to 1000rpm fan speeds, rad is at front with fans on inside working as a as 'pull air in' config.
