5800x Dilemma?

I'm waiting on my delivery of a 5800x, (around 230ish in queue), and im not seeing much in the way of updates on when stock is going to be inbound.

Im wondering if AMD will be prioritising the 5600x & 5900x as im sure id read that the 5800x is less efficient for them to make (I could well be wrong however!)

Anyone heard any noises on when new stock could be on the way?

Im getting itchy fingers and wondering whether to cancel the 5800x and get a 3900xt.

Its mainly a gaming build to be paired with a RTX 2080 (standard, not super)

I know what you mean, I ordered a 5800x on the 5th I'm now 40th in the queue pending the update today.

I don't believe they have dispatched any since launch day which doesn't bode well, plus Gibbo's most recent update doesn't indicate any are coming next week either.

That's no movement at all since launch stock.

I don't want to cancel as I'm so low in the queue as I would guess the first batch they comes in I should be in luck, but the waiting us getting frustrating as the weeks go on, honestly being so low in the queue I had anticipated getting one by now.

I'm hoping another few weeks but who knows......

Saying that, if Overclockers have a spare OEM 5800x thats just in a plastic bag rather than the nice Retail packaging and free Far Cry 6...im not fussy....give me a refund of £30 and my Next Day Delivery and all good!! :D

I've not looked far into it but my understanding of previous fabs is they use the failed 5900x (just as example here) chips as the lesser chips - 5800x.

Wouldn't they already be made by now anyway just getting put together?

Each CCX is 8 cores, so the the 5800X and 5950X both require complete units, whereas the 5600X and 5900X can use CCX's with up to 2 dead cores.

What happens with people who have ordered system builds i wonder....do they get priority over people just ordering a CPU??

They should be separate stock, but who knows, some landed amounts aren't equating to what people are seeing in queue drops. There's a massive mark-up on pre-built units, so it wouldn't surprise me if those got priority.

That's what makes me wonder whether AMD are not going to 'prioritise' the 5800x, even though the unbalanced pricing compared to the 5600x and 5900x means customers are already paying a premium.

I'm just here.. Sitting at under 10th in queue since 5th :(

Updates pls :( Even if its "no 5800X's coming in coming weeks" at least we know

10th...now thats just teasing you!

It is frustrating, although I think the real people we should be a bit ****** at is AMD. Knowing the current global situation with Covid, increased demand, pressure on manufacturing plants etc, they really should have just held back the launches until there was adequate stock in the supply chains. Its even worse for the people who are trying to get hold of 6000 series GPU's. Especially as AMD were telling the world how there would be stock at launch.

Wouldn't the system builds be OEM CPUs though?

True OEM components were never meant to be sold individually but they always have been. Not sure the legalities of it but at one point Ebay wouldnt allow the Windows OEM version be sold without some kind of hardware being sold with it to. So you would buy Windows 7 OEM and get the disc/code with a SATA lead. It was a way to get round MS stating Windows OEM is for system builders only. Etailers selling OEM CPU's to consumers individually not sure how it has come to that whether its overstock of OEM CPU's and no orders of full PC's to put them in but it seems a lot lax now than it was back in the day.

I was fortunate in a way I needed a motherboard so bought a 5800x Bundle and got it in 48hrs from order to delivery last week. Adding up the components seperately which also included RAM and an AIO it was actually cheaper as a bundle than if you bought them seperately.

Just puts it into perspective people in a queue since 5th Nov and I got mine last week in 3 days.

So there are 3080's and 5xxx CPU's going out in the OEM channel for bundles and system builders. Its evident too that a certain manufacturer is selling 5xxx series CPU's with 3xxx cards in a PC and people are buying them either as a new PC or stripping out the 3xxx card and keeping it and selling the rest of the PC or vice versa. I imagine others are doing it too. I've just seen a 5950 PC with 3090 GPU for delivery within 8 days.

Tell me about it..

I agree to an extent, but I also think there needs to be some level of communication other than "we are getting 200 5950x" and then not talk about the rest.

Just look at their main competitor, they have a breakdown updated DAILY. Give that job to someone every morning that takes 10 mins out their day to put in a daily update on the forum so we aren't all wondering wtf going on and spamming the forums all day  I do like OC but they have their issues, but what company doesn't :p

e: did just find a post made by Gibbo yesterday highlighting they're still waiting for updates on 5800x shipments, but would be nice if it was easier to find, not lost in a 205 page thread :D

So ive just had my queue update...FFS, ive dropped down two places!!!!

We have also shipped 189pc of 5950X to date, we have another just shy of 100 units due next week and only have 205 orders outstanding on those.
So by end of next week we would have shipped nearly 300 units of 5950X, quite a large numbers compared to competitors, some competitors have still had zero stock.

5800X we shipped 186 units so far and 145 units of 5600X, we are still waiting for updates on shipments for these parts.

This is why unfortunately :(
