5800X - Low Cinebench R20 scores

Do these scores look low?

Cinebench R20
CPU multi 5271
CPU single 491

I have BIOS defaults enabled, XMP on auto and RAM is looking correct.

MSI MEG Unify X570
BIOS is up to date (1 version behind - 7C35vA7)

AMD Chipset drivers have been reinstalled. No issues with a Ryzen 5 3600 in the same board.

CPUZ bench looks ok, 651 single, 6611.4 multi

edit, there is only 1x 8 pin power (2x4 pin) to motherboard. It does have the optino of adding another 8 pin power connection but was told this is for LN2 use only

edit 2, ill start by getting the latest bios applied as have noticed this thread

you really want both 8 pin cpu power sockets connected. they are not for LN2 use only.

Also that core voltage reported by CPUZ 1.432v is kinda high. i dont like motherboards just using what they want. I would manual set that to 1.275v

Are you sure? Someone on these forums specifically said the 2nd connection was not required. There was a youtube video initially stating to use them for PCIe4 full power or something on those line. Then he went back and corrected himself as proved the 2nd 8 pin was not used at all when measuring it was a multimeter.

I have updated to the latest BIOS and scores are looking more normal

Presume a BIOS issue as small issues are slowly ironed out

Do you know this for a fact? I'm sure there's a youtube vid of someone who goes into the detailed hardware setup of the MEG Unify board, he tested the power usage with a multimeter and one of the 8 pin connectors was not used at all

More than a 60% increase on Timespy CPU score when compared to the 3600...

Is there some advantage to not plugging it in?
Just 'cos I'd plug it in if I have the power cable available... why not?
 
My old X470 board just had the one 8-pin connector on the board, so I used my 2x4-pin cables in it. I've noticed since moving to the B550 with the 5800x that I now have the same 8-pin connector and an extra 4-pin next to it. I read the documentation and it just says:

"Ensure to connect the 8-pin power plug or connect both the 8-pin and 4-pin power plugs."

Obviously don't just use the 4-pin on its own - that is a no no and could over heat. :)

But yeah I read that as if it'll be fine either way. I may have a hunt to see if I have a spare cable for the PSU and use it, but so far it's been fine no issues. I don't think it's a necessity reading that from the manual. Perhaps they should have put (optional) at the end.

well i would say if you have the power cable then plug it in. it will spread the load to the CPU and although you might well be able to get away with 1 plugged in but why not use 2 if you have them. as for MSI why put 2 on the board if you only need 1? makes no sense.

I think the video was pointing out its not used for pcie4 (gpu, nvme etc.)

Had a quick tidy up and removed an old molex for audio, a front audio header ive not used for maybe 10 years and connected the cpu2 atx.

Cleaner than before actually even if it was a bit fiddly connecting it with the cpu2 connector with the HSF still in place

I think MSI added the second 8 pin for extreme overclocking, as it's sold as an overclocking motherboard.
 
Just got my 5800x bundle today and the motherboard I got has a 4 pin and 8 pin socket. So I plugged cables in for both.
First run of Cinebench R20 gave me 5934 / 554 with a boast of 4.5ghz. Replaced my 8700k system completely apart from my
drives and GPU. Think there is an issue with cooling as its getting to 82c in Multi core benchmark. It idles at 38c though. I'm running with the case
standard 120mm fans and the standard AIO 120mm fan. Might just need some tinkering the bundle came pre-assembled so
might repaste the CPU with Grizzly see how that goes. Also got some better 140mm fans too so room for tinkering.
Then as a last resort might need to look into getting a 240mm/280mm AIO.

I'm on a recent beta bios for my MSI MEG Unify X570. The final one was I was on running Cinebench R20 with low scores and a crash when running XMP stock settings is why I created this thread. Updated and problems went away
I suggest putting both bios versions on a USB stick and upgrade to the latest beta bios. Maybe a spare stick with your current one on so you can flash back directly through motherboard usb flash if thats available

disclaimer - if it breaks, its not my fault :p
