Hi all.

Just plumped for a 5800x3d upgrade from a 3600.

I've read the 5800x3d gets a bit toasty shall we say. Anyone on here using a Brocken 2 on their 5800x3d or is is time for a new cooler? If so which one please that's reasonable priced

Thanks!

Blimey, that looks a beast !
If cost is a consideration I would give it a go, looks like it would do the job, set PBO/offset and enjoy.
Got an Arctic freezer II 240 AIO with offset mounting that has been more than good enough

Yeah it is huge! I have to leave side of my case off.

Will give it a go first tomorrow when it arrives and see what temps it hits and I'll Google what temps should be.

Fingers crossed

Great cooler but the fan is built for silence and spins at 1100rpm max but should be able to cope.

If not take a look at the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 se, its a beast for the price.

Thanks Micky for the recommendation. I'll try and save some pennies by giving the brocken 2 a run out with it but appreciate the advice if no good

Of course you did.

My bad. :p

If you do get a new cooler, that Peerless Assassin looks very good value.

I have a Arctic Freezer II 360mm on my 5800X and works great. (if you can fit it in your case)

Thanks I will check that one out too.

I can't remember my case model number at all. The brocken is slightly too big though so it's side off and regular cleaning

If you know what case you've got, you'll be able to see what max height air cooler you can use without having to leave the side panel off!

The 5800x3D can be cooled pretty well by even smaller coolers (Noctua L12S is only 66m tall) provided you use PBO2 tuner / mobo per core optimiser to help out. There's even people that cool it with the Blackridge cooler which is really small!

As stated, your Elite 335U cooler height spec is 163 mm so Brocken should fit.
Is it Brocken heatpipe and fin height or is it fan over RAM that is too tall for your case?
Brocken is 126 x 105 x 158 mm, Peerless Assassin 120 SE is 125 mm x 110 mm x 155 mm, so slightly shorter.

As stated, Brocken 2 has 1100rpm fan. Changing fan to a higher speed model will improve cooling if case fan speed can be increased to match airflow needs. Higher speed fans also mean more noise. ;)

I installed my new CPU with PA 120se last night and it's a tight squeeze but she fits and the side of the case is back on after about 2.5 yeas of being off!
No real noise increase to report so happy overall!

Good news!
I would think side closed at similar fan speed would be a little quieter, but depends on case flowing enough air to cooler.
How are temps compared to what you had with Brocken with side open?

I'll be honest i don't really recall as never had any issues or oc'd my old 3600.

Currently though with my 5800x3d and PA120se the cpu is running around 33-34 for general use and web surfing. I did an hours stress testing last night (CBA with 24) and it went to high 70's running at 4.45ghz but from what i gather these can handle 90C anyway so not fussed.

I only game on it and playing Warzone 2.0 brings the temps up to high 50's and low 60's at it's peak so i'm confident it won't melt :D
