Just installed my new cpu, it idles at under 30 degrees but when i had a quick blast on battlefield 5 it was around 70 degrees, does this seem about right? i am running it completely stock and havnt downloaded any drivers for the cpu as dont know if i have to or not lol
or which one to download.

Usually get a mate to do all my pc work but put this cpu in myself, all replies gratefully received along with any help given

Thanks

70C is perfectly fine. :)
Thanks, sometimes it has spiked to around 75 but no further, ive only tested on battlefield 5 and battlefield 2042 so far and there is quite a good improvement over my 3800x.

The gpu is in the high 90% range usage all the time now where as when i played 2042 with the 3800x it could drop as low as high 70s usage on some maps, everything seems smoother also

Just had a quick blast on cyberpunk and temps are under 60c in that game, strange how they get so high in battlefield games, guess they must push the cpu more

And dosnt go above 65c in hogwarts either lol

That's good. What cooler are you using?

It is great for a stock cooler, ive tested hogwarts, cyberpunk, halo, battlefield 5 and battlefield 2042...all the games ive tested so far dont go above 65c apart from the 2 battlefield games.

Infact halo and cyberpunk are below 60c :)

Both my old 3700x and my current 5900x spiked the highest in bf2042, I think it's very intensive on the cores and a very good multithreaded implementation, I assume for all the damage and player count. It's always the game that consoles struggle with, although I am quite happy with the current PS5 version.

Good to know its normal, they were the 2 first games i tried and when i saw 70c to 75c i panicked a little lol

Battlefield 2042 will hammer your 8 core CPU like no tomorrow in 64 and 128 player games.. My 5800x is getting rather toasty at stock power settings which is why I limited the PPT to 95 watts.

All battlefields push my cpu about 5c hotter then other games…

But your temps are fine. Have you set a curv offset in bios ?
No, im running the cpu at stock at the moment, im not sure how to undervolt etc as never done it before, all motherboards have a different way of doing it dont they? i have the msi gaming plus max x470 mb

With MSI you should be able to use the “kombo strike” feature located in the bios to set curve optimiser to either -10, -20 or -30 depending on what is stable for your CPU

mmmm i havent seen kombo strike setting in the bios, maybe its there somewhere but havent seen it, will have to have a look around

Had a little search around in bios and cant find any kombo strike....found persision boost overdrive but dosnt work like the videos ive seen on other msi motherboards, the options are not the same.

Guess i will have to leave it as dont want to bugger anything up

To get Kombo Strike , i think it will need the latest bios for your motherboard.

Click the "OC" panel and select "Advanced CPU Config". It should be the first option on the list.

If it still is not there you could use a program called "PBO2 Tuner", but will let someone else talk you through that as i have not used it myself.

Can i now update the bios with the 5800x3d then? as i had to update it to use the 5800x3d with my old 3800x because this motherboard was designed for earlier cpus

My temps are pretty good in all games ive played except the battlefield games so i guess its not a big deal, although i would like to know i could undervolt should i need to in the future

Guess i could use pbo tuner as looks easy to use from the youtube video ive seen, but didnt really want another program running in the background

Thanks for advice
